bearcat
I just read in Guns and Ammo Magazine that Remington will be offering New loads for the .300 RUM in 2007. They call it Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. Level 1 will be loaded to 30-06 velocities, Level 2 will be loaded to .300 WSM/ .300 Winchester Mag. velocity and Level 3 will be fully loaded .300 RUM velocity. Does anyone think that this will help boost the sales of .300 RUM ammo and rifles? Does anyone besides me like the concept of one cartridge with three different power levels? Strut10
Re: New .300 Remington Ultra Mag ammo Sounds like a good marketing move............offering downloaded ammo. Kinda like reduced handloads for the guy who doesn't handload.
Shaun_300
Re: New .300 Remington Ultra Mag ammo It definetly sounds like a good idea, that should definetly up the sales of the RUM's. Pretty good selection of different ammo strengths out of one cartridge.
Guest ronin
Re: New .300 Remington Ultra Mag ammo I don't know. I hand load all my 300's because they are so **** expensive to begin with. I think a lot of people with these big guns hand load for much the same reason. I doubt I will be buying any. If and when I buy factory ammo for any of my magnums, I tend more towards Federal anyway.
AJ
Re: New .300 Remington Ultra Mag ammo LOL! I think I mentioned this as a joke in the past. I guess the machismo is wearing off and people realizing how much they really kick. Getting 30-06 velocities in a case that can take 100 gr of powder is asking for a lot. It better be stuffed with filler otherwise its going to be nasty. So, do the guys shooting the Level One stuff have to go back to drinking cocoa? bearcat
Re: New .300 Remington Ultra Mag ammo I think that maybe Sales are dropping off instead of Machoism. I personally don't have any trouble what so ever shooting my .300 RUM with FULL power loads. Yes, it does have some recoil, but no more recoil than a standard .338 Win. Mag. The .300 Weatherby generates the same recoil as the .300 RUM as well. These are two popular rounds that have been around a long time and accounted for alot of big game. Their recoil has never really been an issue for the many hunters that use them. I don't claim to be macho, but I'm not afraid of a little recoil either. By the way I LOVE cocoa and also coffee. I hope that the .300 RUM keeps on keeping on, in fact I plan on buying another one in the near future.
Guest ronin
Re: New .300 Remington Ultra Mag ammo Shheez, the price of the factory bullets makes me flinch far more than the recoil!!
bearcat
Re: New .300 Remington Ultra Mag ammo Ronin, You are definately right about the cost of the ammo. .300 RUM ammo is about $5-$10 more per box than .300 Win. Mag ammo. Even the old standards like the 30-06, .270, .308 etc. have went up considerably in price. I remember a couple of years ago, I could buy a box of Ballistic Tips for my 06 for $17.99 a box, now the same store sells them for $22.99 a box. Before long, if things dont change, the working man will be PRICED right out of the sport of shooting and hunting. I think this is why Remington is going to offer the Reduced loads in the .300 RUM, to lower the cost a little and try to boost sales. Guest ronin
Re: New .300 Remington Ultra Mag ammo Yep, then complicate matters in Californina where they are furiously trying to ban internet sale of ammo or componants, tax ammo, and imprinting devices for primers. I'm ready to move.
Canadian_Goose
Re: New .300 Remington Ultra Mag ammo If you wanted to shoot a .30 cal bullet at 30/06 velocities, Why wouldn't you just get a 30/

bearcat
Re: New .300 Remington Ultra Mag ammo I have two 30-06's myself. I dont think that I will be buying any ammo in 300 RUM loaded down to 30-06 velocities. But the .300 Win. Mag/ .300 WSM power range maybe. I don't own either of these two cartridges, so I could use the power level of these cartridges in my .300 RUM without having to buy another rifle. But then again another rifle would sure be nice.
