centralsaskhunter
Im looking into shooting a new bow, I'm 14, 5'11, and 240 lbs, Im pulling 60 right now, but when I pulled an 80 I was cuttin' bolts and washers, so abotut 70 lbs Im thinking. Ive been bowhunting all this year, but have been target shooting on my own for two years. It will be used for Saskatchewan Whitetails, Mulies, and mabye a moose hunt if I get lucky Any opinions and experiences are appreciated. I liked the Mathew's Switchback XT, what does everyone think? Tony
Re: Bow Choices Mathews makes a good bow for sure. i like Hoyts myself. seeing that your going to be a pretty big guy somewhere down the line. i think you might be better served buying a bow thats a little longer axle to axle. look for something around 36 axle to axle of longer. im 6'3" and 225 and i really like longer axle to axle bows for me. my draw length is 29.5, so a longer axle to axle bow makes more sense. if i got a bow thats short axle to axle like 34 inches or less. the string angle would be a lot sharper and tougher to see through the peep and just a little tougher to hold in my opinion. also because your young and strong doesnt mean you must draw 70 lbs or more. i can easily draw over 70, but i dont. it will save on your shoulders if you went with a 60 to 70 lb bow and just shot a moderate poundage like 62 or 63. with the new technology that todays bows have, you dont have to shoot heavy poundage to get performance out of them. its all about matching the arrow to the poundage. just remember to get a bows that fits you in draw weight , draw length. also all a bow must do is be quiet and be accurate in your hands. Shoot Strong Tony
nutz4bucks
Re: Bow Choices yep, tony's got it right just because you can pull back more poundage doesn't me you should because when your hunting you will most likely have on more cloths and the temps will be lower and why should you struggle when you can be comfortable 60 lbs is plenty nowdays with the super fast bow setups
