Guest tarbaby
Im on a roll with questions about waterfowl huntin. lol... A place I have permission to hunt normally has quite a few geese that fly over it looking for fields to feed in.. the is an field that wasnt planted this year and grew up into almost solid foxtail.. would geese feed in this.. I would love to setup in it because of the cover.. the foxtail is laid over and is only a few inches tall.. I just dont know if i could call geese into the field since its not your normal corn, wheat, or beans that everybody hunts from (i guess that could help me).. anybody have opinions??? DU_man_84
Re: Geese in foxtail field??? im not familiar with foxtail, but in my years of hunting ive seen geese feed in some areas that you normaly dont see them feed around here most of the time, yes they typically they feed in your corn and bean fields, but i have seen geese feed in CRP fields, sod farms, the nearby high school football field, burnt prairie grass fields, complete dirt fields next to subdivisions up by the city, so id say if you know there are birds flying over you could always give it a shot and set up and see what happens, what is there to lose, and even if you cant get them to work, you might get some passing shots
gitcha_some
Re: Geese in foxtail field??? canada geese are natural grazers although most people dont realize it, they prefer grasses over everything unless they need to eat grains to stay warm. with the warm winter were having here ( dunno about where you are) the geese havent even touched the grain fields yet. a foxtail field would be fine but it would help if some green stuff is starting, or had started to grow in a little. goose season has been pretty lame so far here, the birds just sit on ponds all day and walk up into the surrounding grass whenever they feel hungry, the birds that do fly are going straight for horse pastures, ponds with grass around them, and winter wheat. to answer your quesion as long as youre well hidden and have some decent decoys it should definantly work out for you
