Swamphunter
Can any recommend a good air rifle for me? I want something to teach my boy who will soon be 7 to shoot, and also something with some "punch" to it. I would like to keep it under $200.00. What do you guys recommend?? BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: Air rifle Air gun That is a great starter gun and its relatively easy to **** and load .. comes with a scope and shoots 1000 fps you can even use it for some varmint control around the house ... Swamphunter
Re: Air rifle I see there are 1000fps and also 1200fps...I realize there will be a difference in trajectories, but what about "killing power" for varmits? How big a difference is there?
BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: Air rifle 1k fps is plenty we can kill a rabbit at 30 yards with the 1k fps and pigeons from 75 yards ... I think it would put a serious hurt on a coon or possum if its in the right place ... you shouldn't experience any problems with the 1k verses the 1200 fps ... I dont think the 200 fps is a big advantage for the added money Steve

Swamphunter
Re: Air rifle Thanks! What brand do you all recommend?? Cabelas have several, including Beeman, Gamo, Crosman, Daisy, Remington and such.
BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: Air rifle Beeman or Gamo make the best rifles in my opinion ... just for your price range I am not sure you will get a combo for under 200 in Gamo ... Beeman is the best bet and I like the wood stocks anyhow ... Gamo is synthetic ... Steve
buckee
Re: Air rifle That's a great looking gun there Steve and the ratings on it is excellent too. Heck, when I was 8 years old, I got one of them old break down .177 cal pellet guns. I was taught not to shoot songbirds, but pests like grackles and starlings were fair game. I would sit under the picnic table in the back yard for hours shooting starlings and grackles, with that thing. I shot many a rabbit with it too, and even managed a sitting pheasant one year. They pack a lot more punch on small game-type critters.

It's a little tough to load (break open) for a yound child, but with adult supervision my kids love shooting it.
