ousoonerfan22
I've shot a couple of beaver in my uncles pond but the rest of them won't come out in the daylight so I'm going to try to trap them.I'm going to set a couple of #4's in the water leading to their trails going over the pond dam where they're chewing up trees.I might try some lure if I have trouble catching them so who makes good lure and where do you get it? We can't use conibears so I can't place one of them in the den hole.

ousoonerfan22
Re: trapping lure? I'm going to add a longer chain to the trap and a weight so the beaver will drown and not pull out of the leghold. How much weight would you use? Strut10
Re: trapping lure? If you're setting a good trail you shouldn't need lure. A blind set will do fine. Shockwave hit it with the drowning lock & wire. You can make locks out of a 1/4" wide slice of 1"x1/8" angle iron. Just drill a hole on either end of the "L" shaped piece you've sliced off. Slide your drowning wire through one hole and attach your trap chain to the other hole with a twist of wire. Make sure the "trap end" of the drowning lock "L" is pointed toward the deeper water. You'll know if it's right. The trap chain & lock will be easily pulled out to deep water but will cam and pinch the wire if you try to pull it back. Attach your length of drowning wire to a 10 lb. rock on one end and toss it into 2-3 feet of water. Stake the other end to the water's edge. Also attach a 2-4 lb. rock with wire to the middle of the trap chain. Works like a charm.
ousoonerfan22
Re: trapping lure? Does the piece of angle need a hole on each side? One for the drowning wire and one to tie the trap to it?

One hole to attach the trap.
