IowaDeerHunter
I am looking to purchase my first climbing stand for hunting next year. Figured I better start now as I may find good off season deals. One I have been looking at is the Summit Viper SS. Anyone use that? Definetely not looking to spend over 250. Maybe even 200. But any other suggestion as far as nice sit and climb ones?
Gator
Re: Looking for a climbing stand. From what I have seen, Summit is definately the way to go. I am gonna be getting myself one this year. I did see in my newest CABELAS sale catalog they had a Summit MEGABUCKS series for $199.99 plus shipping.......It looked ALOT like a Viper SS
Chrud
Re: Looking for a climbing stand. Summit's are ok. The seats are comfortable. But, they are pretty heavy. The platforms are noisy when temps get around 15 or colder. Summit's are nice, but they aren't a Lone Wolf.
wtnhunt
Re: Looking for a climbing stand. Got a summit python here. Been very happy with it. Quiet, comfortable, and was priced fairly reasonably.
Guest Sass67
Re: Looking for a climbing stand. I have a summit and like it just fine, had it for about 3 or 4 seasons now, if I was looking again, I would look at the lite weight gorillas, (simple, lite weight, looks comfortable) also the Summit with the climbing bar that moves out of your way I think would be great. Mine is the older model of that particular stand. I like it because I am afraid of heights and I feel more secure with a climbing bar. I can shoot sitting down in my stand, but the newer model I bet you would much better clearance for shooting while sitting down. I tell myself this is not to spook the deer, but really it is because of the height thing !

[/ QUOTE ] yup, this is EXACTLY what i did...in 2004 i bought a 2003 summit golliath for under $200. the only difference in the two was that the 2004 models were the first to come with the stirrups, i added those for $20. great stand..can't go wrong with a summit

LifeNRA
Re: Looking for a climbing stand. I got the Summit Goliath, little bigger at the top section. The Viper is the same stand, but with a normal top section. If you need the extra space, which I dont, but its nice to have just a little more room to move around in! Guest PhilMac23
Re: Looking for a climbing stand. If you got the money invest in the tree-lounge. I got one 2 christmas ago and it is the best tree stand i have ever used. I have a summit, and gorilla, they are nice too but if i plan on being in the woods more than 5 hrs. i am in the TL. everything about it is 5* look it up and you will see what i mean. IowaDeerHunter
Re: Looking for a climbing stand. 20 pound weight is no big deal for me. I think I will look for the Viper or Viper SS on sale sometime. I am in no big hurry.
Outdoor_Guy
Re: Looking for a climbing stand. Go with the Sunnit Viper. The old style is just as good as the new and you can find it on sale for under $150.00. I have used mine 20-25 times each year for five years now and it is still like new. It weighs 19 lbs. Can't get much lighter than a Summit, especially at the quality of the stand. I carried around a Buck Shot climber for years, now that's a heavy stand. I have one of the old cobras that has the air bladder for the seat and back and it only weights 17 lbs. I do have one buddy that has a lone wolf and it is the loudest stand for taking apart, putting together and walking with it.
