Guest fourtrax_300
i am just starting to get into duck hunting this year...season is all but over but i'm already gearing up for next season and i have a few questions. I'm looking for a new Shotgun to hunt with. i would prefer a pump 12ga with a 3 1/2" chamber. i am open to sugestions but cant afford a very expensive gun around $400 is the budget. looking mostly at remingtons and mossbergs just cuase they are the 2 brands i already know and use. looking for a gun that i can submerge in water and have it still shoot.i know the remington 870's can handle this. my brother and law has one and it has proven it'self also getting a pair of waders since we always have to wade in. looking to get advantage max 4 pattern but how much insulation should i be looking for ? callin- i want to learn to call and i dont realy even know the basics nor do i ahve anyone to teach me. can anyone suggest a good begginer call and maby a cd or something to teach me ? i think that pretty much covers it for now....thanks in advance for the help. DU_man_84
Re: tips for beggining Duck hunter ? well first off for a shotgun, i would definately buy the 870 express super mag, great gun and indestructible, like you said you know they can take a beating, ive had one for 8 years now and its been through a lot and never fails to fire, pretty much all my hunting buddies have 870's and nobody has had a problem, and you can get a 870 super mag for just a little over 300 bucks, for waders, i would definately get a pair of 5mm's, you can go 3.5 but during winter i know it can get cold in southern illinois and your gonna want the 5mm, as for insulation in the boots, they have them from 400 gram thinsulate to cabelas 1600 gram, all around gram would be 800 to 1000, 800 is what ive always had, but if you know if your feet get cold then step up to some thicker boot insulation, as for waders itself, i strongly recommend Cabela's brand waders, when it comes to waders cabelas always lives up to its name, cabelas waders is all ive ever owned and they can take some punishment, ive had buddies that go through waders year after year cause they go out and buy cheapos, in 8 years ive had 2 pairs of waders from cabelas, and the one pair was 6 years old and still doesnt have leaks in them, i just updated 2 years ago to the same pair, cause updated to max-4 and got rid of adv. wetlands, dont go cheap when it comes to buying waders in my opinion, as for calling some great begginer calls i would recomend would be buck gardner's double nasty, HS calls, or the Primos original wench, great begginer calls and they wont break your pocket, as for teaching methods, if you dont have anyone to show ya, definately get some cd's, or dvd's, i think foiles callin ducks is a great dvd, gardner has some good types on calling and also barnie calef i think is a good instructional teacher, i think that covers some of your questions, anymore questions just post em up and the boys here at realtree will answer our best, another thing, where abouts in so. illinois are you, anywhere near SIUC, i went to school there for three years, no a few spots around the area if you wanted to know i could tell ya prolly, just PM me
Guest fourtrax_300
Re: tips for beggining Duck hunter ? ok thanks for your help. yeah i was looking on cabelas website and found thier 1600 gram waders ! they are only $10.00 or so than the 1200 gram too and my feet get cold eaisly then deer hutning so i think the 1600 grams would be good for me. i have one local sporting goods store to go to called dunns and i'll check and see what they have. if i dont find anything there i'm going with the cabelas. yeah i prorbley will go with the 870 so long as i can find one in camo or at the least a black synthetic. i will try and pic up one of those calls and a dvd or something. thanks for all your help. i am near SIUC, but closer to Marion if you know where that is. I actualy live in Herrin.....and yeah hit me up with those spots if you dont mind. i have only been to rend lake this year.
