Went out last wednesday to my closest and favorite stand. Got in the stand at 5:50am and at 7:00 i had two does come in and I missed the shot at 20 yards shot right over top of her. I went back the next morning and got in the stand about the same time and had two does come in I made the shot on the biggest of the two at 28 yards hit her right in the lungs quarterin away from me,She only ran about 30 yards. That was my last tag but season doesnt go out until jan. 11 so i bought another set. Saturday mornin I went to the same stand and I was sittin there I just looked at my watch and it was 7:14am I looked up and saw a little doe come out of the thicket about 60 yards from me. I was watchin her and she had already got about 40 yards from me and I saw a buck come out of the thicket and dissapear behind some trees. I didnt get a good look at him but he looked like a nice buck. I watched the doe as she cam within 30 yards. It wasnt to long that the buck walked out from behind the trees and got on the fourwheeler path that i had made on thursday when i went to get my doe.He was headin straight for me. He was comin in to where the little doe was he got behind another tree when he was walkin toward me and i stood up, When he came out from behind the tree he was about 40 yards from me He kept walkin on the path and turned broadside at 32 yards. I aimed right behind his shoulder and i hit a little left, i was shakin a little. But i made a good shot that muzzy went through one shoulder blade breakin through bones and everything and got stuck in the other. I watched him stop and lay down about 50 yards from where i hit him. I shot him at 7:21 and i got down to find my arrow at 7:40 I thought it had went all the way through but i found it had been broke off about 12 inches in i thought it was enough to where i could just go get him but to be sure i backed out. I went and got my buddy and we came back at 8:30 and sure enough he was layin where i saw him lay down dead er n a door nail. He had seven points 4 on one side three on the other hes not my biggest but hes a nice buck i'd say hed score about 130 give er take. I let a few fork horns and small basket rack sixers walk early this year and my buddy was tellin me man i would shoot em all, I told him i would to if it got late in season but i wanted my first with a bow to be either big or nice and I couldnt be more happy with what i got grin.gif. (PICS TO COME ASAP)

Re: First buck with a bow

Your story brings up something I was thinking about. The fear of hitting the shoulder.

"But i made a good shot that muzzy went through one shoulder blade breakin through bones and everything and got stuck in the other. "

The Muzzy tip looks like it would blast through bone no problem, as it did. What is the pound pull on your bow?

Great job on the Buck. I have not taken a deer with a bow yet. Please let me know if I am off the mark about hitting the shoulder. I understand shooting at a steep downward angle could cause the arrow to deflect off the shoulder bone. I am thinking about a level 30 yard shot with 60 lbs of KE.

Hitting him in the shoulder wasn't my intention

I pulled to the left but it was enough to put him down. Although this isnt a shot i will try to take if you hit em just right and you have the right equipment it might kill him but i would never take the chance. I got lucky it hit the way it did and the arrow didnt break off any sooner or deflect itself somehow. My bow is set on around 64 lbs that might be why it went as far as it did but again i would never intentionally try to hit in the shoulder with a bow NEVER.
