Swamphunter
OK... after years of not hunting geese and ducks, I have decided to get back into it. What do you guys recommend for a boat? It will be for river use with a decent current. How about a shotgun? I have an 870 mag...with full choke. It has been 20 years since I have ever swung a bead past a duck or goose. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe even a pic of your boat would be helpful!!
lil hunter
Re: Need boat info... Theres tons of good boats. What size do you want?? Lowe roughneck, tracker grizzly, fisher, are some good jon boats. Then theres also some boats made just for duck hunting. As far as the shotgun, I wouldn't reccomend a full choke with steel shot.If you want a lot of info on duck and goose hunting, check out www.duckhunter.net I am on there under huntinkid
huntn4bucks
Re: Need boat info... Hey swamp, most of the boats we duck hunt out of are 14' or 16' boats. A 14 footer can be kind of tight with 3 guys, dozens of decoys, a dog, and all your other gear but it's do-able. We mainly run 25 hp motors...they're not real fast loaded down but they'll get you where your going. Also, I prefer a boat that has at least a 6 or 8 degree hull...flat bottoms are okay but they don't maneuver as well. War Eagle Boats are good as well as Lowe Boats . As far as shotguns and loads...I use a Benelli Super Black Eagle with an Improved-cylinder choke with Winchester Drylok #4s for ducks and BB & #2s for geese. Strut_Buster
Re: Need boat info... http://www.alumacraft.com/jon_aw.html We have an Alumnicraft Tunnel Boat. I think its one of the best for rocky rivers and shallow lagoons. Ours isn't exactly like this but its close. I got it out once duck hunting but didn't stay in it cause we never bought camo for it. I will get you some pics of it if you want. Also it doubles for us as a ragular fishing boat.. We float fish down some nasty rocky rivers with it and are abel to cruise at 40 MPH with a 40 horse. Also its just a plane jane boat without carpet or anything to worry about cleaning. It has special drains and a bilge so no worries about rain. And it has a Livewell if you decide to catch some bass. I dunno if this is what you are looking for but if ou wanna buy a new or used one of these I would check em out. Olive drab already, all you need is some camo spray and your set. Good Luck. http://www.alumacraft.com/jon_aw.html
