JKAPP01
Hey all.......i was offered a trade i may not refuse.....just need some people's opinions. i have a tikka .338 from RMEF and was offered a weatherby vanguard .300 mag from RMEF as a straight up trade. the weatherby is composite stack and the tikka is walnut....what does everyone think? OJR
Re: Do I Trade? They should pay you at least $500.00 to boot! I wouldn't trade for the Vanguard at all!
JKAPP01
Re: Do I Trade? but i don't need the .338 i think it's too big for the game i hunt around here......it's a moose and elk gun......and a .300 will take down both of them....plus ammo is cheaper. more input!! JKAPP01
Re: Do I Trade? weatherby is garbage? i don't know much about them? i've been wanting a new rifle.......i just looked at it as a way to save myself some money......maybe i will shop around then. OJR
Re: Do I Trade? A Vanguard is made by Howa and then Weatherby puts their name on them! It is not a rifle manufactured by Weatherby!
JKAPP01
Re: Do I Trade? hummmmm......good piece of info........so lets say i am looking at something in the $500 range.....what do you think?
elkoholic
Re: Do I Trade? No trade there. If the Vanguard is chambered in .300 Weatherby, the shells would not be cheaper and then even that aspect of the trade goes away. Keep the Tikka and look for a good quality 30.06, .280 or even a 7mm-08 to do your local hunting and plan a an elk or moose hunt to use the .338 on. Now....that sounds like a plan. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] sell the Tikka and buy a Browning A-Bolt [/ QUOTE ]i have to agree with him browning is one of the better guns! [/ QUOTE ] Just dont confuse that as Tikka not be a good quality gun. There is nothing wrong with a Tikka. Btw, the trade isnt a good one. I agree 100% with everyone in here. If you have no use for the large cal take it to a gunshow. Just keep a good number in your head and dont take any less, and that includes trades. Newarcher
Re: Do I Trade? Sell the Tikka and get what you want. The Vanguards are nowhere near the quality of the real Weatherby's. No joke there. Tikka makes one of the most accurate rifles out of the box around. Forget the trade, you would get a raw deal with that one. dartonman
Re: Do I Trade? A Weatherby Vangaurd is a walmart version Weatherby....it is nowhere near the value of your Tikka........but I think you are finding this out.........go to gunbroker.com, and look them up...then maybe contact a dealer with Tikka rifles, and maybe he will trade you a gun in a less than brutal caliber............al
wtnhunt
Re: Do I Trade? Have to agree with those who say to sell the tikka and buy what you want. The browning A-bolt is a great rifle, there are several otehrs out there too.

OJR
Re: Do I Trade? I see there is quite a following of the Browning A bolts! I had one in the 7mm Mag and it was not very accurate. I got rid of it, went to Remingtons and they were better! Then I got the Tikka's and they are much better! Will stay with them!

OJR
Re: Do I Trade? [ QUOTE ] Must have been the scope, or the shooter. [/ QUOTE ] I tried 3 different scopes on it and also had 4 or 5 different guys try to get somewhat decent groups with it and nothing worked. When I sold it, I told the guy that I couldn't get it to group! The best group I got was about 1 1/2"! He put a Leupold scope on it and couldn't get it below 2"! He then tried an old Baush & Lomb, it was worse! I used the scope I took of it and put it on a Remington 270 and I shot 1/2" groups with it! I don't know what he did with the gun! At least he didn't come back after me!! LOL!!

I can shoot very tight groups out to 200 yards with mine. But believe me, I've had guns that I could never get comfortable with and they have all headed to new homes.
