M00N
Now that my shoulder injury has healed enough to pull 40lbs with my bow, I'm finally going to get a chance after wanting to for 2 years to get setup and try archery hunting this season. My parents surprised me with some of the equipment needed to get a new bow and get started. They also said I could get a new bow, but that I have to go with them to get it at the pro shop. I didn't expect this much for Christmas, but now I'm excited! I also was told we're going not only turkey hunting, but archery deer hunting, and rifle deer hunting in 2007. This is the items I got so far to go on my new bow when I get it. This only leaves me a few more items needed that I will have to get myself, besides the bow. I can't wait! Now I just have to get over this nasty sickness that took over me on Christmas Day so that I can get out to the pro shop and get fitted for a bow. Really looking into the 07' Martin Bengal. mrswtnhunt
Re: Looks Like Archery Is On The Menu! My hubby got me a new bow for our anniversary. Was doing some practicing the other day and found out what string slap feels like. OUCH!!! Now I understand what my husband was talking about when he said to not arch my forearm inward. I learnt my lesson and hope i never do that again. Congrats on your accessories and good luck.
M00N
Re: Looks Like Archery Is On The Menu! Thanks everyone. I'm really looking forward to hunting in warmer weather and getting up close and personal with some deer. I have my list of items I still need to get ready and my bow choices narrowed down to two brands and 5 different bows to try out and choose my bow from. Now I just have to get over this nasty chest cold/pneumonia/sinus infection/ear infection stuff and get to feeling well enough to go get fitted for everything and the bow ordered. [ QUOTE ] 3 words......practice , practice, practice........you'll love it ! [/ QUOTE ] Yep, that's my plan lots of practice and slow progression until I meet my goal of accuracy. Then the rest is based on luck and getting a good stand setup this coming archery season. I shot bow for 2-3 years before I injured my shoulder and had to stop. I was quite accurate with my old bow, despite it being a bit unsuitable for anything other than target shooting and poorly setup. I had a lot of wasted arrows, not from misses, but taking the fletchings or nocks off my other arrows on near robin-hoods at 10 and 20 yards and a few at 30 yards. That bow compared to todays bows is not a very accurate bow, nor well balanced or set up one. So, I'm excited to see how accurate I can be with a well setup bow with today's technologies. I'm hoping that, despite the near 5 year break from shooting bow, all the learning I did before hand comes back to me quickly. I remember once I had a bad posture while letting an arrow fly and it slapped a different part of the female body. Now that REALLY hurt! I got a nice compression shirt to help with those issues with female archers.
Turkeygirl
Re: Looks Like Archery Is On The Menu! LOL! That really had to hurt! Being a woman does have it's cons.....Let us know what bow you pick out! I was out after squirrels with mine today, some squirrels but couldn't get a shot off...Still need to get my 20 and 30 yard pin set for the field tips (shooting higher than broadheads) but I'm not planning on shooting squirrels that far...
