Gosh, that means Johan Santana could command 25 million a year when he becomes a free agent. This is beyond going too far. Do they think one pitcher will make their aging team a contender?? I know I'm biased because I hate the Giants, but realistically, what does this acquisition mean to them??? Division win?? Doubtful. .500 season?? Maybe. I'm surprised he signed with the Giants with all the other legit World Series contenders who were gong after him. But I guess when a bad team is offering that kind of money...who wouldn't sign. What it means is there is A LOT of available money in baseball--especially for the big city teams. What a salary for working every 4 or 5 days during the season.
