Re: Global Warming....

Strut, hate to break it to you, but CO2 is a greenhouse gas. True, it used during plant respiration (not as food), but the excess in which it is produced compared to the time plants can process it in addition to the loss of vegetation (i.e. overlogging, cutting of rain forests) is not a good thing.

Muggs, I understand it's still a theory. However I feel the data so far supports that theory. Finding non-biased info is an amazing hassle because the funding for such research generally comes form groups looking to support the theory or blow the theory out of the water. Science isnt just for learning anymore or making new discoveries for the benefit of man. It's used for personal gains, for businesses to make money or protect their assets, or for groups to strengthen their cause. And muggs I figured if global warming was such as scare tactic to be used politically that Bush would have used it a long time ago.

Re: Global Warming....

CO2 is something every human being and animal on earth exhale everytime we take a breath. Unlike cars, we are always running and multiplying..LOL smile.gif

I don't really want to get into this discussion too deep. I'd rather sit back and watch it, because I might turn it into a biblical discussion as well..LOL grin.gif

Re: Global Warming....

To think that humans have no effect on the environment is an ignorant statement at best. We have produced enough nuclear warheads to vaporize the face of the earth several times over. I would consider that a rather significant impact on the global environment. While Gore's movie reeks with political motivations and ill-citied propaganda, almost all scientific journals (EBSCO Host) are in support of global warming, despite their beliefs of the orgins of global warming.

The way I look at it is we know we are very capable of affecting our enivironment, just ask the bison and other endangered species. This is the reason we have harvesting restrictions. And while we have certain restrictions when it comes to fossil feuls, the growing consensus is that we are using to much and thus producing excessive amounts of waste, at rates the earth cannot counter balance. If we embrace the theory of global warming and set up certain restrictions on such resources and their use, and we are wrong, we have lost some money and other economic values.

But if we choose to dismiss global warming as a rational theory (or the belief that we are a variable in global warming) and we are wrong, imagine the consequences.

I don't know about my nothern neighbors but I appreciate the snow up here for multiple reasons and would fight tooth and nail for it.

Re: Global Warming....

i think it's a bunch of hogwash. the people saying global warmin is coming are the very same folks who told us 30 years ago that we were headed for a new ice age... just a bunch of crap. history, and studies, tell us that there is a natural warming & cooling of the world, and we humans are not the problem..

Warmest Year on Record crazy.giffrown.gif

Now see, that's what's wrong with most of these discussions. People point to a single occurance and draw all types of conclusions from it, when in all actuality, none should have been drawn. You can't accurately measure some trend like this so called "global warming" by any one event. Climate changes occur over thousands, or tens of thousands of years. Not over a few decades or even a century. When measuring anything that has a tremendous amount of data points, whether its atmospheric temperatures, human birth rates, or the salinity of the oceans, you've got to look at long term averages. Any single event that falls well outside the trend line is called an "outlier".

Re: Global Warming....

I'm not singling you out, just speaking in generalities. If next year is the coldest on record, or if the next 10 years are all well below the average, should I start proclaiming that we're heading for another ice age? Of course not!

Show me what the climate has done for the past 100,000 years, and maybe we can draw some valid scientific conclusions from that. Heck, if we look at the last 5000 years, we might even be able to get an idea of where we'll be in the next 2 or 3 hundred.

Re: Global Warming....

What the doomsdayers perpetuating the global warming myth neglect to tell us all is threefold:

1: There is NO hard, scientific evidence of any such phenomenon. An increasing number of scientists are, indeed, thinking we (the earth) may be really headed toward another "mini ice age".

2: The span of time that man has been keeping accurate climatic records, in proportion to the earth's timeline, is about like the period at the end of this sentence in proportion to a football field. What happened climatically in 2006 don't mean squat.

3: There is a HUGE amount of grant money being pumped out to perpetuate the global warming myth. The myth will continue to be reiterated because if it's proven to be bunk, then a lot of scientists are out of a good paying job.

What, you mean that there are scientists out there actually making money off of their findings? I'm shocked! I thought all of those folks were just doing it for the betterment of mankind. blush.gif

Re: Global Warming....

I'm tired of hearing about global warming. Its scientist and experts trying to sound like they can predict the weather or anything else. Temps vary from year to year. It will probrably be in the 20's in march this year. What will it be then Global cooling. Tell Denver, CO that. They've had 2 blizzards already this winter. I'm not yelling at you, I just hate hearing about global warming.
