CoyoteKiller16
Re: coyote calls? I live in NE pennsylvania and theres little to no pressure for coyotes around us, and since western ny isnt to awful far away heres some very useful calls to purchase or use. Primos Ki-Yi...a coyote yip call which also doubles as a cottontail in distress (very useful around the eastern coast!)-and you said that you have a lil dog call which is what i have and works wonders. Maybe you would want to try a Pup-in-distress call, or a "coyote fighting with a fox" call. Any more questions, ill gladly try to answer. SHOOT STRAIGHT, SHOOT OFTEN! captkb44
Re: coyote calls? Any of those calls will work as long as you set up right. Play the wind to your favor.................coyotes will generally circle downwind to try and catch your scent. Set up so that you can catch them before they get downwind. You mention that there is little hunting pressure in your area, so this may come in handy in years to come. nutz4bucks made an interesting comment that I use to agree with 100%, until a few years ago. Using distress sounds of animals in your area does work, but don't limit yourself to just that. Here in Texas we have tons of jackrabbits and cottontails, BUT everyone that does any kind of calling has both jackrabbit and cottontail distress calls. Before I started making and using hands almost exclusively I bought several Johnny Stewart tapes of distress sounds that didn't go with this area. One in particular is the snow shoe hare distress - alot deeper and raspier sound than the average jackrabbit distress. We don't have snow shoe hares here, but I have called in alot of coyotes with this tape. Reason being is its something different than what everyone else is using.
