Newarcher
Just curious to know if any of you listen to Dave Ramsey? If you can find him on the AM dial, he is a great source of financial planning information and pushes people to really get out of debt. He changed the way I budget from "don't buy it if you don't have to" to zero dollar budgeting where you take your entire paycheck on something. I just completed my entire budget for the year and am seeing very positive benefits. Previously, ATMs and credit card spending made it hard to budge and accurately determine a budget and variances. Dave advocates envelopes for recurring monthly expenses (I slightly modified to pull out quarterly or yearly expenses to a savings account). This stuff REALLY works. Steven
Re: Dave Ramsey listeners? I used to listen to him everyday. But, not so much anymore. It can be a helpful tool for new listeners, but after 2 1/2 years its kinda like "Yeah, I know, sell the car, lose the credit card, name the dog Ebay, growth stock mutual funds". I am 100% debt free thanks to Dave, though I no longer listen everyday.

Newarcher
Re: Dave Ramsey listeners? He has me really really fired up to pay off the mortgage....I guess I never really thought about it honestly. Imagine the freedom and the stress relief to own nothing but utilities and incidentals. Jeramie
Re: Dave Ramsey listeners? He has books out there too. We arent implementing his plan 100% but are using him as a tool. Within 2-years we will easily free up over $1k a month (free up). Thats on a track plan. That doesnt include all of the small debt we have in between.... WestKyTeacher
Re: Dave Ramsey listeners? Love his concept mostly. It has really helped in saving and knowing where the money goes, but like Steven said, I don't listen daily like I once did. However, I still follow his plan with some modifications and I will/am better off because of it all. I for one will never buy a new car again after doing some research into is info, I agree with the concept 100%.
Shaun_300
Re: Dave Ramsey listeners? Never heard of him, but it sort of sounds like the book my dad had me read a few years ago called "The Wealthy Barber" by David Chilton. Awesome book and great advice. Basically it states to save 10% of every cent you make, by the time you are ready to retire you'll be a millionaire.
otdrzmn04
Re: Dave Ramsey listeners? my employer has special seminars for us with him, alot of people say he has made them look at their financial needs totally different
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Dave Ramsey listeners? I have listened to him, a buddy does too and tries to follow his advice as much as possible. Everyones dream is to be debt free but I think sometimes its hard not to be in debt. Then again if we all had radio shows and book deals and held seminars, we'd all probably be debt free as well! LOL!!
Newarcher
Re: Dave Ramsey listeners? True, Timberlou! I am working to get my truck paid off, get back to maxing out 401-k and saving for college, and then stay current with my car needs, etc. I must admit though, it is tiring of the worst kind. With the new budget, it should make everything much less difficult. Cal
