Reweighing your pellets.....

Re: Reweighing your pellets.....

Why would I want to pay extra to have somebody else misweigh my powder charges, when I can save money use powder and misweigh it myself. grin.gif

All kidding aside I have to agree with Zoobear. Loose powder lets you tailor you loads to get the best from your gun. In the woods give me a T/C quickshot or equivelent with the premeasured powder charge and a bullet stuck in the other end. Doesn't get much simpler than that. smile.gif

Re: Reweighing your pellets.....

I shoot 777 pellets, and no, have never weighed them. I suppose it could be a good idea though. I don't recommend ever shaving them though for safety reasons.I have shot better than 3 boxes of the 777 and several of pyrodex before that. Either I have been lucky, or they do a decent job making them. They shoot so well out of my Encore. Some like them, some don't, it all comes down to how they perform in your muzzleloader. Yes, pellets are definitely more expensive than lose powder. I like the conveniance smile.gif This is food for thought though, thanks. I will probably pick up a cheap scale and really test them out !!

Re: Reweighing your pellets.....

Wow, my cusstom Rem 700 ML will shoot like a benchrest gun then. I never weigh out the pellets, I just pull them out and shoot 3 at a time. I can still manage 1" groups with the gun consistantly. I don't buy that dramatic group size reduction is possible by sorting or equalizing pellets. At 150 or 200 yards, it is possible but at 100 yards, I don't think it will make any difference. Most guns will shoot more accurately than the shooter can under field conditions anyhow.

Re: Reweighing your pellets.....

Seriously I never put any thought to it.

I truely think, for me, they are close enough... LOL

Besides ML hunting is suppose to have an aire of difficulty.

If I wanted rifle accuary, I would stick with just rifle hunting.. JMO

Now if you were asking about arrows...

THATS another can of worms all together... LOL

Re: Reweighing your pellets.....

Well the new pyrodex pellets I am using appear to be the exact same size. As for weight or volume I am not sure since I have not put the digital calipers on them nor put them on my grain scale...

I suppose we could go further and say the sabots and bullets could possibly weight different too.

A few grains plus or minus did not seem to effect by arrows impact at 30 yards and my ML finally groups 1" at 100 yards.

If I matched every pellets and sabot to bullet and got them exactly the same weight per load, will this get me bullet hole threw bullet holes?

I doubt it...

I have very little doubt that every pellet is not exact, but to me, I feel its darn close and more then close enough for me to get 1" groups at 100" when I do my part.

Thats all I am saying.

Dont start a panic like you and I did with the broad heads last summer.. LOL

Piece brother...

I hope my stocking is full of pellets also...

I would love to see that! I have shot both and pellets do out perform loose. I get faster velocity with 3 pellets than I can with 150 gr of loose. So, I pay a little more, oh well.
