Next fall sometime around Thanksgiving, my friend and I are planning are taking an archery trip out to Iowa. We were thinking about maybe hunting some block managment properties. Maybe even some national forrest or game lands. Anyone know of any places that we could hunt that would present some good hunting opportunities? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You can apply for your licenses here.

Heres a list of the public hunting grounds by county, it gives you a brief description, size of the property, and location.

Heres a map I found, if I were picking a place Id go somewhere in the light blue shaded area at the bottom.Since its the better area for big bucks youll have more trouble getting into private ground around there, lot of leasing and out of state landowners down there.Id look for a county with a lot of public oppurtunities or plan to make a trip up here once before season to knock on a few doors.

And like Billkay said, if you dont have preference points you may not even get drawn this year.Good Luck.

Found this also, top 10 counties with record bucks registered in the state.Might help when picking a spot.

I live in Marion County- zone 5. I live out in the country, and there's deer everywhere. I have also hunted Muscatine and Louisa (near 8) counties. Many great deer taken around the area. Couldn't tell you of any outfitters. I hunt on all private grounds.
