Switchbacker
Hey I just recieved a call from my guide in Illinois and he said they found 6 sheds already and have seen many half racked bucks. he said to plan my flight out the first weekend in february to shed hunt. is there a possibility that the majority of bucks may have dropped by then? Thanks
Turkeygirl
Re: Early drop season? Wow...I'd say if they are finding that many sheds already ready and seeing half racked bucks, should be a good chance many will have shed by February. Tom2008
Re: Early drop season? Yeah from what it sounds like most of the bucks will have dropped by then. There may be a couple stragglers, but thats it.
Canuck2
Re: Early drop season? In general, the further north the earlier antlers drop - just like the timing of the rut. Here in B.C. right on the WA state border, most whitetails shed during the last 2 weeks of December. Being a little further south, I would expect Illinois to be a little later, but not much. The first buck I saw minus one antler this winter was Dec 17. Since the beginning of January, the only buck I've seen still sporting antlers is a little spike. As an aside, our mule deer don't shed until end of Jan into Feb, the moose in Dec, and elk about Mar/Apr.

Hoyt03
Re: Early drop season? Last two weeks all the bucks I have gotten on camera have shed the antlers already. I'd say the majority in the last week. It;s cool to have them come into your camera full set then the next day of two they are back with a half set of nothing. hoytman26
Re: Early drop season? We live in southwest ohio and my dad said he saw a buck the other night in the yard and he still had horns. That was on 1-21-
hoytguy08
Re: Early drop season? tonight driving into town, i saw 13 bucks that all still had full racks, so i think i'll pull the usual and wait till after the deer and turkey show (Feb. 23-25) to start lookin

ousoonerfan22
Re: Early drop season? I found two small sheds under the feeder today. One is the other side of the small 6 pt. buck's rack that I found a few days ago,the second is a spike. The ice storm brought down half the oak tree where one feeder is hanging making a nice brush pile under the feeder,I found the sheds in the brush.
