Guest chrispy
yesterday i was shopping at a Dick's Sporting Goods and saw one of those realtree roadtrip's "will hunt for food" hats. now don't get me wrong, i like the show, and i like michael waddell, but isn't this hat just a bit rediculous? from seeing the show, i have seen michael put the "judo chop" as he likes to say it on some monster bucks. so what kind of image is realtree trying to project??? isn't the purpose of hunting to put food on the table? or are they more concerned about just a nice rack for the wall? bigmoss
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? That slogan has been around a long time and fits the show and Michael just perfect. You cant say this is the first time you are seeing this. Any fan of RT or Michaels show should of heard of this by now. The Hat says just that will hunt for "FOOD" so where do you get the nice rack portion from ?
Guest psefirestormlite
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? I like the show... I think on almost every show they shoot a doe??? Hey, if I was in his foot step I would be doing the same thing.

buckee
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? The slogan "will hunt for food" was made for you and I to wear proudly on our shirts, hats and bumper stickers. It's who we are. If you don't like it, you can always go to a printing shop and make your own slogan up. And as far as the "judo chop" goes. That just another great way of saying "I made an awesome kill-shot" So what's the problem....eh
need2hunt
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? I think what he's referring to is the "food" usually has a nice rack attached to it as opposed to just shooting does, chrispy correct me if I'm wrong. With that being my take on your post here's my answer... nope, don't find the hat ridiculous at all. As for the show itself, personally I think it's done more good in projecting what a hunter is than the majority (if not all) of the "get in the stand, shoot the deer, onto the next hunt" shows that are out. If your looking for a shoot the first thing that comes under the stand to put food on the table show I don't see where it would have any longgevity (sp?) on TV or in dvd sales. Also IMO the I have to shoot everything because it's there idea would project a much worse image than that of what Roadtrips is doing. buckee
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? Yeah, it wouldn't be good marketing if they called their DVD's "Monster Bucks" and then showed all small deer and does getting shot. They are in the business of giving us good deer hunting dreams, plain and simple. Monster Bucks are food too. Just more of it I agree with Gary also, that if they showed hunters shooting just any ol' deer and not being selective, it would give hunting a "shoot anything that moves" or "if it's brown it's down" image. Everytime I hear someone say "if it's brown, it's down", it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
wtnhunt
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? Maybe chrispy is talking about things being too commercialized. Maybe I am reading this in here, but kind of can see where there is a bit of a degree of going overboard on some things anymore, and has gotten far worse in the past 10 years. Some hunters will buy things just because they think a certain pro who they may idolize uses that particular brand or model of equipment or even in some instances non hunting items such as jerky just because that pro endorses it. PAstringking
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? the show is great and Waddell is the man. he brings a young and exciting face to hunting. a lot of kids really look up to him and want to do what he does. from what i have seen on all of his shows, he is an ethical hunter that takes does but also take some monster bucks. i just know that i would love to be in his place. what a life he lives. and yes i do own the bumper sticker (its on my bow case)! Guest chrispy
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? the intent of this post is not to get people worked up. i like the show, and watch it every week. and you guys are right, i wouldn't watch it if they shot small bucks and does. but i feel that if michael could sell a pair of his sweaty old hunting underwear, and people would be standing in line to buy them. i think that marketing is a bit overboard on some of this stuff, and i know that a lot of people like his theme of "will hunt for food", and i myself laugh about it, but it just seems like anything can now be sold. and p.s. i also like nice racks for the wall, but the meat is why i pull the trigger. Guest chrispy
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? hillbilly, obviously you didn't see my last post. i was just making a simple example about the fact than almost anything can be sold. people sell their foreheads on ebay for advertising purposes. maybe i should be more specific as to why i don't like the slogan. for starters, i personally don't think that its funny. when i think of "will hunt for food" all i can think of is the old saying is "will work for food", and i picture some homeless guy on the side of the street desperate for something to eat. the meanings of these two sayings are completely different. and i feel that there are enough anti-hunters against us, so why fuel the fire??? bowana
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? I think your looking too deep. That's the beauty of Realtree and Co. Everything is to the point with an up front meaning. I also like "Kill it and Grill it". Ted's a radical, but it had distinct meaning as I slow roasted some Elk steaks tonight. If you would have seen what it took to get that "Big" steak off the mountain...I DID WORK FOR THAT FOOD!

[/ QUOTE ] This is where you lose me in your conversation. What does "will hunt for food" have to do with adding fuel to the anti-hunting campfire?? The slogan "will hunt for food" applies to every average joe-blow hunter out there. That why Michael picked it, I'm sure. I fail to see any connection with his slogan, and fuelling any fires. Are we so afraid of the anti's that we can't even speak of eating or hunting deer? I got an idea. Why don't you give us an example of a slogan, for hunting products, that would be acceptable to the anti hunters.
Guest chrispy
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? buckee, i'm not trying to pitch any acceptable slogans, not am i trying to offend anyone of their favorite hunting show. i obviously see this in a different light than many on this board. HOYTnMUZZYboy
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? Waddell is KING!!! Im not trying to be mean here but, this is a Realtree forum, if you dont like some of the things that are sold or said, or put on hats and shirts dont buy them! IMO it was kinda stupid to come in here and say somthin like that, but at the same time that is MO just as it was yours to post your post. I know i can speak for myself and prolly alot of the guys in here, but when it comes to Waddell and his awesome show Realtree Roadtrips, were all a fan. And I dont understand where your getting this fueling any fires either, I own the will hunt for food hat and wear it proudly!! Thats my choice, i dont care what anti hunters think, if they dont like it they dont half to read it. There always gonna be around, and theres always going to be hunters around. Im proud to be a deer hunter, and im not affraid to show it! Hope you dont take this to heart, but you have your opinion and i have mine! Happy Trails. "Will HUNT FOR FOOD!" [/ QUOTE ] Oh heck, it would take a lot more than threads like this to offend me bud. I'm just trying to understand where you're coming from here. Anyone who has anything to sell, has a slogan of some sort, so why pick on Michaels unless you have a better idea in mind ? I just don't get it. I'm trying real hard to understand the purpose of this rant of yours...really I am. Maybe if you could explain why slogans aren't necessary for marketing products, and what the connection is between Michael's slogan and feeding the anti's is, I'd understand better. That whole thing about the guy standing there with the sign that says "Will work for Food" is exactly, why Michael chose to twist it to "Will Hunt for Food". He's standing along the road letting all the traffic that passes by him know it too, and by the way, his job, (unlike ours) "IS" hunting for food. That's what pays his bills, and that's how he earns his living. Without his job, he might be standing along the road with a sign that reads "Will work for food" so what's the big deal. johnf
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? Offensive hat sloguns. "Will hunt just to watch 'em die" "Will hunt bambi" "Will hunt for the thrill of the kill" "Will hunt for a large racked deer" "Will hunt helpless animals who have never hurt anything" "Will hunt just to enjoy the outdoors" Why do we hunt? I've not hunted for a long time, but I have a pattern with all of the deer I have killed. I eat them, my wife eats them, my kids eat them. I hunt for food, what's offensive about that?
