Hillbilly
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? [ QUOTE ] hillbilly, obviously you didn't see my last post. i was just making a simple example about the fact than almost anything can be sold. people sell their foreheads on ebay for advertising purposes. [/ QUOTE ] I saw your post, but that phrase about the sweaty underwear was to funny. Sorry if it was harsh! Sorry if it was off base... my post about u being in line was out of line... i apologize. wtnhunt
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? I like Waddell, and like the show, but kind of agree somewhat with what chrispy is saying here. Some hunters want to be like Mike. They will buy anything he endorses. Some pros, not saying Michael Waddell is one of them, but some have in my opinion been what I would consider to be sellouts, endorsing products they would really never use just to make a buck. That is the wonderful world of commercialization we live in todday. and there are those out there who will buy things just because they see theri favorite hunting show host using the product for the show or endorsing when they might not really even use it. jmho. unioncountyslayer
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? I really don't get what this guy is trying to get across. Don't we all hunt for food? If not we would be poachers. This is one of the greatest Hunting sayings of all time.
Guest chrispy
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? Do you guys really feel that Michael’s main purpose in his show is to hunt for food? Personally, I feel that Michael wouldn’t have to drag along a cameramen and all the extra gear if this was the case. I know that he has a job that probably everyone on the board wished we had. I feel that he shoots animals on film, so that we can sit in front of our TV’s in awe, and then tomorrow we can all go to Dick’s sporting goods and buy some of the stuff he endorses, and by wearing his stuff we too might shoot monster bucks like he does. I’m not blaming him, heck, who wouldn’t want a job that allowed us to hunt game almost year round and get paid good money in the process! I have to save up a lot of vacation time from work so I can take a few weeks off to do what he does for a living. But the marketing on hunting is getting a bit overboard to me. But I guess if someone is possibly going to buy it, then why not try to sell it? And about the anti hunter comment I mentioned above, I didn‘t really go into detail to explain myself. I believe that anytime you bring something to the forefront, you are asking for criticism from the opposing side. For instance, if you ran your truck through the town I work in with a “gut deer?” bumper sticker, you will probably get more than a disgusted look from some. To some, it might be funny, but to others it might be enough for them to re look our sport, and perhaps steer their own kids from doing it. In one of Micheals shows he was complaining about filling his truck up because of the price of gas, he said jokingly that he was going to start siphoning gas from people with peta bumper stickers. Again, funny to some, but if the wrong person is watching…. I maybe am looking into this too far, and should just appreciate it for what it is. But for whatever reason, I just don’t particularly care for the slogan. And maybe I see it in a different light than most of you. I am not disrespecting Michael Waddell, I think that he is a great hunter, a great shot with a bow, and a great guy to represent the younger hunting community. But the hat just rubbed me the wrong way when I walked past it. but just because I walked past it, doesn’t mean the next guy won’t pick it up and buy it. unioncountyslayer
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? Yeah, like me. Bought one for myself and my dad. I think along with me, how most of the guys on here see it is that Waddell has a platform to stand on, to represent us (hunters) and what we do. Yeah, he gets to shoot Monster Bucks every year in almost every location he visits, but I'm 100% certain that he either eats or donates the meat from his kills. I do think that you are reading into this way too much, but everyone has the right to their opinion. But you come into the RT forums with this and expect not to get some critisism? Michael may wear the hat and support the slogan on his show, but it was made for us hunters to let everyone know why we hunt.

mike
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? i for one, refuse to shoot an animal that the family or myself won't eat!!! so yes, i hunt for food! i don't like to eat rabbit or squirrel anymore so i don't hunt them! my son wants to hunt them! my exact words where.. if you shoot it you it eat or leave them alone! his words where.. i would like to try it so if you take me squirrel hunting i will eat it and if i don't like it we won't hunt them anymore, he is 7!!!! Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? i guess i really don't understand what your point is...is it the "advertising" it (the hat ) does for hunting?? are we not allowed to show off what we like to do?....for your bumper sticker example...what should it matter what other people think? i don't hide the fact that i am a hunter, and proudly display hunting stickers on my vehicle. people wear hats and T-shirts of their favorite teams out in public...they may not be everyones favorite team, but does that mean they should stop wearing them? i don't think it has any effect on us as hunters at all...its a hat...and a slogan. if people can go around saying and displaying they are peta members or belong to any other animal rights group...why can't we, as hunters, do the same?? IMO it just sounds like you are someone who cares to much about what people might think of you because you hunt. be proud of it, enjoy it i'm not saying run around trying to force your opinion on others about it, but don't be scared to show your love for a great sport

[/ QUOTE ] LOL ..There is some truth in that. Realtree camo is the best como out there. I mean, many years ago, when I used to go hunting with a plaid shirt and blue-jeans on, and never practised any sort of scent control, I did see a lot of deer butts off in the distance. Today, I have deer walk by me at 5 yrds and less, and they don't have a clue that I am sitting there. Again, funny to some, but if the wrong person is watching…. [/ QUOTE ] "Gut Deer" bumper sticker - Yeah, "Gut Deer" isn't exactly a tasteful slogan even for us hunters..LOL. To compare that slogan to "Will hunt for deer" is just nonsense. If anyone gets offended because I say I am a Hunter and I Hunt deer, then that's their problem, not mine. Hunting is not a dirty word. The mental picture of a gut deer wouldn't be too appealing to most of us. It almost sounds to me, that you are so afraid what the non-hunting public or the anti-hunters think, that you feel us hunters need to be a little ashamed of what we do. Not a chance here man. I'm proud to be a hunter. I talk hunting with almost all of my painting customers, and have never had a problem, even though many of them have never hunted. I don't come across like a redneck and talk about gut deer with them though...LOL Be proud of who you are and what you do in the woods. It's who you are. That is our heritage to pass down to our kids. It will not be passed down with tight lips from folks too afraid to offend the non-hunting community, and it also won't help if we are ignorant about it like the antis are either.. "Will Hunt For Food" is not in any way shape or form a tasteless slogan (like "Gut Deer"). Your reading something into it out of fear of what others might think. And as far as Michael making fun of PETA...Good for him. We need the publics eyes opened to how rediculous that organixation is and others like it. indianaboy
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? Well I figure its best not to get to worked up about this. This really doesnt make any sense to me. If people want to say stuff like that is fine but I wouldnt put it on any hunting forum. It is what we all do we "hunt for food" no questions asked. I know that every time I go hunting it is in hopes to kill a monster buck just like everyone else. Just so happens Michael gets to travel the country to some of the best places there are. If you haven't noticed Michael shoots does almost everywhere he goes. He cant possibly eat ever thing he kills but there is a thing called Hunters feeding the hungry that Im sure he gives to. If its not his food hes hunting for it is someone elses.

wtnhunt
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? Michael's remark about siphoning gas from cars with peta stickers was great. I laughed, but my 10 year old daughter did say something to the effect after laughing too that would be illegal wouldn't it? Think so long as someone explains to a kid the difference in a joke and someone really intending to do something like this there is no harm done, however I could see where some kids out there who have no adult supervision could very well take things like that wrong and take it as Michael is saying it is ok to siphon gas so long as it is from a peta member. Guest Finn
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? Man, if you're looking for someone on a hunting show to pick at, Waddell ain't the one. He's a great spokesman for the sport, and sure seems like a fun guy to be around. In my opinion, you are way over thinking this "Will hunt for Food" deal. Team Realtree
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? I think the show is popular because Michael is himself. And I can tell you he is. He goofs a little, but takes his job and hunting seriously. He's not always going to say the right thing or please everybody, but that what makes the show so good. He is spontaneous. As far the "Will Hunt For Food" caps (or other stuff). It's just something that says, "I am a hunter, and I eat meat (including what I hunt)." Most of the antis like to look at us as just animal killers. There is a lot more to it than that. S
Canadian_Goose
Re: Realtree Roadtrips??????? If you are implying that Micheal has Sold out in some sort of way, I am glad that he is on top then. He is a great role model as you stated and a good representative to the sport of hunting. Hunting is a dying sport and I will fight tooth and nail to keep it open to the general public (unlike certain european countries and Australia)... even if that means dancing for the my money. [/ QUOTE ] Chrispy...pal, man you take things too seriously. It is just a slogan. Don't take any of us the wrong way...some RT members have spoken against the Realtree Pros on here before (especially Waddell), but I have been reading along and staying out of this, but think that it really is not a big deal. Michael is a young enthusiastic hunter and gets excited...(don't we all)? That would be my explanation for the judo chop. Man I get so excited when I make a nice shot on a good buck that I have to sit still in the stand for a bit before I dare climb down. If throwing a couple of judo chops burns off the energy and the shakes...maybe I'll start doing it while saying "YA...thats what I'm talkin' bout!"
