Re: January Photo Assignment Plain as Day

It's "plain as day" where her interest lies

Camera

- Nikon D70

Lens

- Nikon 18-70 Zoom

Setting

- Lens 18mm (approx)

- ISO 800 crazy.gif

- Aperture F22

- Shutter Speed 1500

Photoshop work: So I don't clutter this up I will describe the steps I did and supply a link to what the pic looked like after that step was done. I'll probably blog these on my garysmoot myspace page as I go and possibly get into further detail there in the future if people are interested in that.

1. I took the original photo and used the cloning brush to get rid of any spots or blemishes due to dust on the lens. You'll notice that the original is much darker than the end product. PIC

2. I applied auto contrast - you'll notice that there is little to no change. PIC

3. I applied auto levels - this took out the yellow tone. PIC

4. With the angle that I shot the pic it kind of made it look like the antler was closer to LeeLoo than the bowl of food (even though it wasn't). So I rotated the entire pic 4 degrees counter-clockwise to fix this. Also it fixes the horizontal line that runs in the cloth behind her. PIC

5. I cropped the pic to get rid of the empty space in front, sometimes empty space is good but in this pic I just saw it as distracting. You'll notice that I still have some black areas from the rotation. PIC

6. This is the part that I'm just going to overview without getting into all the detail. To fix the black areas of the photo I used the rectangle selection tool to selct a similar area and then applied a 5 pixel feather of the selection - this is so there is no hard lines. Then I copied the area, pasted it and moved it over into position. For areas that color wise still stood out I used the eraser with a soft edge and erased part of the added area to blend it in. Any black that was left was small and the clone tool was used to finish it off. PIC

7. To me a large part of this pic is simply where she is looking. I wasn't satisfied that her eyes appeard very dark so I did this and the next step to give them more definition or attention. I used the lasso tool with the click option to draw a selection around her eye. The I did a 2 pixel feather to soften the selection edges. Then I pushed up the saturation level under -adjust - hue and saturation. PIC

8. I used the -adjust -Lightness and Contrast to bump up the contrast in the eye, giving it more color. PIC

9. Lastly I felt that the pic was still on the dark side so I used the -adjust -curves to lighten the overall pic with most of the adjustment affecting the midtones. That gave me the finished pic that has been posted.

My thoughts - I had taken pics of some stuff to sell last night and had dragged out one of my studio lights and boom SET PIC I know that most if not everyone doesn't have this stuff laying around the house so i feel blessed. Anyway I just had this idea today while playing with Leeloo and decided to try it. You'll noticed my goofy face next to my ISO setting I had on my camera - I should never had it that high for this pic and it is the reason that it looks a bit on the grainy side. Because I didn't reset my ISO that's why my aperture and shutter speeds are so high. Basically I should have had my ISO around 100-200 and then everything adjusted from there, but it was a quick setup with a pet so i just did it off the cuff. Also now as I look at it I think that I would also use photoshops "sharpen" filter to this photo to give it a little better definition.

Plain as day, the sun rises everyday!

Exif data -

File size: 205713 bytes

File date: 2006:06:28 09:40:23

Camera make: FUJIFILM

Camera model: FinePix S7000

Date/Time: 2005:09:25 06:49:58

Resolution: 504 x 378

Flash used: No

Focal length: 46.8mm (35mm equivalent: 1732mm)

CCD width: 0.97mm

Exposure time: 0.0025 s (1/400)

Aperture: f/8.0

ISO equiv.: 200

Whitebalance: Manual

Metering Mode: spot

Exposure: Manual

Exposure Mode: Auto bracketing

Jpeg process: Progressive

No outside the camera alterations were done (Photoshop, ect.), camera was steadied on a tri-pod. Also no filters were used. You can see the rule of thirds were used, or tried too! Photos can look more aplealing if the subject is somewhere in 1/3 part of the photo. In this case I wanted the rising sun to be in the bottom 1/3, and also to the right 1/3 of the shot.

Re: January Photo Assignment Plain as Day

Took this one back in September, but think it is simple and might fill the "plain as day" topic. All I have done with this pic is crop it and resize it.

Had a shot yesterday that I thought would have been great of a huge fox squirrel sitting on a barb wire fence with the bright blue sky in the background, but our dog barked, and the subject moved as I snapped the shutter.

Re: January Photo Assignment Plain as Day

I will help you out ! Im not sure how you are trying to post your picture but you need to go to a photo sharing site and post it to there ie: photobucket, then use the provided URL to post your picture with. When you go on to post your reply look under the Instant UBB Code section , choose the icon named IMAGE, once you click on it , it will ask you for a complete URL. Copy and past your pictures URL in that section and it will automatically add your picture to your post. I know it is kind of confusing , but you need to download your pic first to get started, if you dont want to use photobucket I think realtree has there own photo sharing site, but im not sure how to get to it , might ask the mod they would now. Hope this helps if your still having problems let me know and I can PM you and try to help you on the side.
