wtnhunt
Found white hair right where the doe was standing when I shot her. Could I have hit low and still clipped one of the lungs? Looked a little for the arrow and never found it. Tracked her out of the pile and into the hardwoods. Found some really good blood running along the bottom of the hill zig zagging back and forth along some pretty good trails and got up to the next property over where there is a field fence. The top strand of wire I am guessing is maybe 3 1/2 feet high or so. She could not jump it, usually no problem for a mature deer. She followed the fence up the hill and turned, kind of stumped me for a little where she went in circles. She ended up following the fence until she found a spot where it was down and she went through there. Not sure how far distance wise she has gone. Seems pretty far. I got over along the fence and looked like she was heading towards my neighbors barns through some really thick nasty junk. My three year old got hungry and after nearly 2 hours of dragging her through the woods we decided to take a break. Will get back out after the wife gets home and pick up where we left off. If I hit a little low(the white hair) and she is bleeding pretty heavy especially in spots going up hill where she is digging, how far might she have gone, looked like in several spots she fell down. We never got any where near over that way last night, so she was not ever really pushed. Oh yeah the coyotes I heard last night were not too terribly far off from where I last got to before we just came back in .
Tominator
Re: yesterdays shot-update you know what? sorry to say, if you got white hair, and bright blood, i think you hit brisket and she'll be fine. the blood stay bright, or did it get kind of watery looking towards the end? some of the things you said make me believe she might go down. sure would be nice to find that arrow to see if you got paunch or not. keep at it i guess. dogdoc
Re: yesterdays shot-update white hair does usually mean a low hit but most of your low superficial hits bleed a lot at first then peters out after a short distance. Your doing some good tracking--good luck this afternoon. todd
wtnhunt
Re: yesterdays shot-update The blood is staying pretty consistently red red. Not bubbly bright like a real good lung hit, but not at all dark red. I did smell some of the bigger puddles and they did not smell like what I would think a paunch hit deers blood would smell. As much blood as she had lost up to the furthest point I got, I would tend to think she should not be too much further. Seeing as how she was unable to jump the fence and the way the leaves were it looked like she was struggling just to keep on her feet and moving. wtnhunt
Re: yesterdays shot-update Coyotes must have found her last night before I ever got out of my blind. I found her this afternoon and was really not much left. Hard to believe how little was left in less than 24 hours. Anyone near TN that wants to help eradicate some yotes? tedicast
Re: yesterdays shot-update that sucks wtn, I know the feeling...Happened to me early this season. I paunched a doe...let her lay for about an hour and a half, and ended up kicking her up....she was walking real slow, so I figured she wouldn't go far. Hit her at 6:30, went back at 3. The yote had demolished her. found her 30 yards from where I kicked her up. Were you able to tell where the hit was?
