snap,

Just to clarify your NOT sayng that everyone gets a prize, right? Just that everyone that enters is eligible to get drawn for one of the X amount of prizes?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes Gary...sorry for any confusion. I have X number of small prizes given to me by Scott to give away for the turkey contest. However, we decide to give them out...those folks names will go into a hat and pulled for a prize.

Man come on...........Lets sign up

Setting up the contest is not just a one day thing. Everything has to be set-up just right. Rules need to be made and discussed. Give them time and the Moderators here will get them up. They will have it up when it is ready.

I would say make the door prizes available to anybody, who signed up, AND participated in the contest. Every year we get no shows, I don't think it would be fair for one of them to win the door prize. Just my opinion

[/ QUOTE ]

I thought about that, but then figured if they no showed for the contest they wouldn't be around to claim the door prize later so . . . .

Re: New for the contest this year...

I like the idea of giving the door prizes out after the contest has finished to everyone who's participated and aren't on the winning team. This way no person wins multiple prizes, leaving other users a chance to win something even if their team did badly. This also will prevent the people who don't even turkey hunt, but sign up just to win the door prizes and don't participate, but when they win the prize will magically show up to claim it.

I think that the participation should be measured by two things. 1) if you check in with your team and 2) if you check out with them at the end of the contest with your hunting results, even if they weren't successful. I don't think participation should be weighed on if you submit an entry or not, because not everyone bags a bird every year, but still participate with their team. JMO

I say, ONLY put the names of the people who bag a bird should be put in the random drawing.... Keeps the people who don't hunt turkeys from joining in hopes of just getting lucky for a prize......and not hunting at all.....

[/ QUOTE ]

Only problem with that is people like me who hunt our butts off, are active members, and don't get a shot at a turkey......which hopefully will change this spring.

Ditto what turkeygirl said. I've been hunting 4 years straight without a bird. Last year got skunked multiple times by the same bird while trying to get one for this same contest last year. I still participated and posted in my team thread though and congratulated other hunters on other teams throughout the contest. It's not uncommon on the public land high elevation mountain area that I hunt for a hunter to go several years inbetween birds. A bird every year in that area gets you a lot of attention and pats on the back.

Re: New for the contest this year...

Ok...after reviewing...here's what we'll do...

Door prizes will be drawn at the end of the contest from the contestants who participated but weren't on the winning team.

By participating I mean....you'll have to check in with your team once teams are made up and before your season starts. If you bag a bird I'm sure you'll check in during the season at some point...however, if you don't bag a bird...you'll still need to check in to your team giving them an update of how your season went. Thanks moon for the ideas...its appreciated!

This isn't meant to exclude anyone...but the turkey contest and all other contests on this board are meant to bring in new contributing members and to have fun. If your not going to contribute to the forums...then there is really no need to register and sign up for a contest just to win a prize.

I will need members of the teams help to keep track of who shows and don't. So once the teams are made up...if a member of your team doesn't show before or after...please pm me.

Thanks and have fun...rules and sign up is coming!
