Your most embarassing moment this bow season?

Mine was the morning that I thought I had my release in my fanny pack, but it was actually in my backpack. I didn't realize that until I already had my climber up the tree and the sun was coming up.

So I decided that since I used to shoot fingers that it wasn't that big of a deal. I never realized how hard it was to keep an arrow on a prong style rest while shooting fingers. I missed the buck of a lifetime, but did manage to drill a nice 400 pt. oak tree!

Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season?

Last day of the season (Jan. 7th) I drove out to my hunting area and started getting dressed. I sat down on my car seat to pull my pants up and my car made a weird beeping noise but i didnt think anything of it so i shut the door and went hunting. Got back to my car and it was locked, keys inside. I must of accidenly bumped the lock button so I had to call my dad on my cell and he brang my spare key. IT was the coldest day of the season too....Figures.

Not sure if embarassing or scared but I was sitting in my treestand in total darkness and had an owl land 6 feet above my head and he keep looking at me. I thought he was looking at breakfast which was me! Needless to say I had to get out the maglight and shine it at him, he finally left. grin.gif

Having a doe at 10yrds and loosing a brand new muzzy to 8" maple in front of her. The doe curse continues. Then having another doe at 10yrds and while turning around in the stand to shoot have it creak....off she goes, all on video. The doe curse continues.

Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season?

Opening day of bow season, after the morning hunt of only seeing one deer. I change stands for the evening hunt, about 5:15 her comes four Does. I felt like a rookie my blood was pumping so fast through my viens. I shoot the lead Doe and watch her pile up about 50 yards out. Cool, I thought! Then all heck breaks loose about 15 minutes later. I had to put myself between a feeding area and a bedding area. I've got deer coming from all around me and six or so all ready made into the field n front of me. I'm supposed to be a very well composed bowhunter keep in mind! LOL I look to my left here comes a dandy 8 point in full velvet, I watch him come in frm 70 yards out. Wlks right under my tree and I choke big time, hit him through the brisket. I'm really shook now. 15 minutes later here comes a Doe and two more small bucks. I draw on the Doe at 17 yards and let'er fly, I got her dead to rights. Until my bow string catches my harness strap on my left side and sends the arrow about six feet above her back. Now, I've shot three times within one hour and 15 minutes and I've still got an hour an a half of shooting light left and deer still in the field and more coming from the woods. I can't take anmore and have tog et down, I was about to fall out of the tree from nerves being shot and not deer. LOL Then I have to go back to camp and tell my friend that loves to ride me like a horse when I mess up! After his sides quit hurting from laughing at me, we made dinner and got ready for the next days hunt. Big taste of humble pie on opening day!

Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season?

Not too many embarrassing moments for me this year. I was 3 for 4 with my bow this year, the 1 doe I missed was a 25 yard shot I tried to squeeze in around a smallish tree that was 10 yards from the deer. The arrow slapped the tree and went directly into the ground about 5-7 yards in front of the deer. Almost got a second shot off at her, she had no idea what happened, but by the time I got an arrow nocked, she was walking directly away from me at 35 yards and not looking back at all.

Can't complain at all, it's been a great year for me. cool.gif

Where were you guys at 10:40 am, September 30, 2006? I know where I was. I was crouched down about 24 yards from a 180-class typical mule deer that had no idea I had snuck up downwind of him, waiting for him to mill his way into an opening so I could send an arrow through him. You might ask, "LDB, how is it that under such obviously intense circumstances you were able to ascertain the precise time?" Well sir, I had a memory aid. My flippin' watch alarm went off.

Here's what his antlers looked like above the bushes, moments before I spooked him:

Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season?

I was going to hunt the north side of the ranch opening morning. I drove my truck around the outside of the ranch, about an 8 mile drive, over to a gate on the north. When I got out, I found out that I didn't have my release. Yep, left it on the kitchen table at the ranch house. Had to race back, grab it, then race back to the north gate. It was cracking dawn as I walked to my stand and of course, there were already several deer standing around the spot. They spooked when I walked up and never came back.

Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season?

Mine wasn't during bow season, but opening day of gun season. I was just sitting there (on the ground) before daylight having a good ole time when I heard several twigs breaking and leaves crunching. I got turned around and saw The buck of the woods, I mean MacDaddy, the one who runs the joint on a crash course for a shooting lane. Two more steps and he walks behind a little brush pile so I stand up cause I have to to get a shot....and tails go up and the little six pointer that was with him that I never saw busted me and headed for unknown parts. I almost cried, I was so mad I coulda kicked myself.. oh well, lesson learned I guess..

Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season?

Mine wasn't really bad luck but it was stupidity. Me and my brother figured we would camp at Rend Lake in Il and take off all opening week. Well we set up camp, got everything ready for hunting the next day, and decided that we would go and get a drink and some dinner. My girlfriend was going to stay with us for the first couple of days just to hang out. Needless to say she was our DD and after a late night we woke up a little late in the morning. By the time we got to the parking lot and got ready the light was coming up. I tried to sneak to my stand, but I got stopped just before i got to it where i noticed a nice buck coming out of the woods and into the corn right were my stand was. My brother went on to miss 2 does later that morning. Guess we brought that one on ourselves.

I do have to agree that LBD has won so far....

Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season?

Missed a doe at 15 yds with my bow, but I absolutely KILLED a 4 inch diameter tree that is now mounted with the broadhead still in it grin.gif ....and my brother caught it on video. He also got me shooting the same doe about 5 minutes later in the same shooting lane.

Missed a 160" class 10pt with my muzzleloader at about 100 yds...and my wife was with me to see the miss.
