Guest Gooder
Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season? Well mine would be early this season I had my Matrix set up in a perfect spot to harvest an early season doe. I invited a friend to video tape the hunt. He showed up at my house early and I already had the truck packed with my gear. We took the 25 min. drive and got out. We got dressed and I grabbed my gear. I opened the back door to get my bow and - OH MY GOD, I FORGOT TO BRING MY BOW!!!!! LOL I have forgotten my release a few times before but this was a first. I raced home doing about 160km/h and we still made it into the blind before legal light. I almost got a doe on video but that is another story in itself!!!!! Guest Mathews_Pa_Bowhunter
Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season? Well lets see, huh there r so many!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok opening morning a friend and I jumped onto the fourwheelers to head out to our spots. We park in area and walk into our spots about 200 yard walk. Only I had forgot to bring my flash light. After we parted ways and i started to my stand I just about killed myself by almost falling so i turn around and went back to fourwheeler. I drove it to the bottom of the tree straped my climbing stand to the tree and parked it about 15 feet away. What to my wandering eyes did i see only 30 min later but a nice doe at 19 yards. I was fortunate enough to make a good shot. however after i had her near the fourwheeler, i moved the fourwheeler without putting my helmet on and when i backed up my helmet fell off into a big mudpuddel!!!!!!! 2 for
hoosierhunter47
Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season? i changed my stand location from the morning to the evening....at about 2 in the afternoon on a nice warm late oct. afternoon i might add...squirrels were busy infront of me and i had good wind and everything...facing the west had the wind in my face and i was sure i would catch them walking to the alfalfa field behind me when i heard a "squirrel" behind me and looked and at 15 yds. was the 10 pt. buck that eluded me last year this time at 2:30 in the afternoon .....by the time i was able to realise it he was in a thicket and i had to watch him walk away....close enough to notice his mouth was open and head to the ground...out searching doe beds......moral of the story...i dont care im going to check all so called squirrel sounds next year...i learned my lesson. CTBowMan
Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season? I'm out for a morning hunt, I get dressed, and generally I take my cell phone out of my pocket and leave it in my car, but this morning I forgot to, a nice 6 pointer comes strolling bye, I shoot and miss at 25 yds, about 5 mins later I'm just about to roll my can to see if I can get the deer to respond and come back but.......my phone rings, it's the wife...I feverishly dig into my pants pocket and answer, she says "what are you doing?" I reply "I'm in a tree and now I guess I'm coming home, since my phone alerted every deer in the county that I'm here!" The wife was happy, but I wasn't very thrilled about it all. Talk about a lesson learned! -- Van
elkoholic
Re: Your most embarrassing moment this bow season? I'm not sure if this is embarrassing or just plain frustrating, but it is in line with the luck I have while elk hunting. I had a five point bull at fifteen yards, a slight quartering to and slightly downhill angle from my position, and just as I tripped the release the bull spun around and the arrow hit him high on the hip. There was very little penetration (must have hit solid bone) and after the bull stopped about 150 yards out, he reached back and pulled the arrow out with his mouth. I watched him for at least five minutes after the shot and after he turned and disappeared into the brush I spent over four hours looking for signs of any serious damage to the bull and could not even find one drop of blood beyond the few at the point where he pulled the arrow out. I beat up on myself about this for weeks. That is the second bull that I have seen pull an arrow out. The first being the very first bull I ever shot at with a bow and smacked him square in the shoulder, which is kind of like shooting a telephone pole. wtnhunt
Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season? Really nothing I would consider embarrassing. Did have an opportunity on a great deer for this area, and held out for the deer to get in my opening even though my shot might have been ok. Long story short a younger deer ahead of him flaked out and took him off about 2 steps away from me releasing.
GWSmith
Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season? Being in my treestand and hearing someone stop at my truck thats out by the road. While worrying about someone messing with my truck I remembered that the Information paper I normally place on my dashboard with my name and who gave me permission to hunt the property...was still in the glovebox Well they left shortly afterwards so I thought "No Problem I Didnt Hear Any Glass Break"!!!! 35minutes later(1 hr before dark) the caretaker of the property comes through the woods right through the area the Deer use to access the field...in an Argo 8x8 right out into the field He drives to within 20 yards of the base of the tree before he realizes that I'm there...Then I wave at him. He recognised who I was shortly afterwards and apoligizes for messing up my hunt. He didnt realize it was my truck but he couldnt have...it was a new one from the one I had in years past. Thats the point when I could have kicked my own butt for not remembering to put a simple piece of paper on the dashboard.

Guest LDB
Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season? I've got one more good embarassing moment. When I went to butcher my whitetail buck, it had frozen solid overnight. I did what I had to do. I cleared the kitchen, threw down a tarp and moved the show inside. I turned up the thermostat and had space heaters going on either end of the deer. As such, it got a little bit warm in the kitchen, so by the time I was finishing, I had stripped down to my boxers. A buddy of mine, Fishy, was out hunting at my place that day. I had just finished butchering the deer and was contemplating hopping in the shower to wash off the blood that glistened across my chiselled features when the patio door opened. Fishy managed to stammer, "Uh Dan, get your pants on - we have to find my buck." I seem to embarrass myself on a regular basis.

rhine16
Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season? Hitting a great buck in the shoulder. Looking for him for a total of almost 12 hours, only to find him 2 months later 150 yards off the woodline in a ditchlined that runs right through open pasture land. Dont know if that is embarrassing or what, i just know that it was sickening to me.

Tony
Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season? my most embarrassing moment. its a 2 fold story. first part was i set up my stand with no regard of the wind ditrection. next a 160 class coming in for a easy shot and then winding me at 60 yards. because of the first mistake. the next mistake was moving my stand to a new location downwind of where i saw the buck the first time. then the capper on this stupidity was a 150 class 8 point walking past my old stand location while i watched him only 40 yards away from the new stand location. if i had been in the old stand i would have gotten him. if i had put some thought into a good stand setup i would have shot the first one. you would think after 29 years of bowhunting i would be smarter than that. Bowhntr
Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season? After two tough weeks in Iowa, I finally shot a doe on the last evening. The hit looked a little high so I opted to let her lay and come back at daylight the next morning. When I went back to track that morning I didn't take my bow and walked up face to face with a 160 class 10 point DOH!

Switchback29A1
Re: Your most embarassing moment this bow season? Me and my best friends dad head over to one of our favorite spots about 15 minutes from the house. Get headed in just a touch late, as he climbs into his rifle stand on the edge of the field i precede to make my way down to the path in the corner of the field....atleast i thought. I walk in and realize i'm not on the right path, back out and try another hole. After 3 tries at it i finally just sit down and wait for a little light. Well past first light i came back into the field and found the right path. I make my 5 minute walk down into the bottom and climb up the stand. While i'm hanging all my stuff up..Tim sends me a text, forgot to turn my phone on vibrate. Now after settling in and him making fun of me getting lost here comes at monster 7 pt walking down the same path i just walked in on....cell phone in one hand, beanie in the other. Got busted trying to put everything away and get my bow at 12 yards. I wanted to jump out of the tree head first.
