What kind of spreader

Kind of curious what kind of fertilizer and seed spreader everyone is using. My old 20 or so year old coop 3 point spreader has about had it. New ones comparable to what I have seem priced a bit more than I would like to spend, but have seen these tow behind broadcast spreaders that can be used with 4 wheelers or lawnmowers and was considering one of them instead. Just kind of curious what you guys use and how well does what you use work.

Re: What kind of spreader

The one I have is just like that top one only it is old and is worn out. I will not get one with a metal hopper. The plates inside have over time rusted together despite being cleaned after usage and kept in the barn pretty well most of the time I have had it up until the end of last summer. The bottom of the hopper cannot be opened or closed anymore, and the spinner plate is messed up. Coop does not sell any parts for it and said it is not serviceable.

Each time we use our spreader we wash it thouroughly, blow it dry with air and lube it with WD-40 or equivilant. Trouble is nobody tells you this when you buy it, do they?

This spreader was used when I got it, part of the deal on some equipment and the tractor I bought along with this farm. Think the spreader was made around 1978 or so. I have had it since 1996, so it was nnearly 20 years old then.

That is good advice though and will remember that for the future.
