Don't look at schedules and conferences, look at the determination these young guys have, they want to play and on any given night, any high ranked team can be beat!! How many teams woulda went undefeated if they played the weak schedule boise had??? They barely beat a weak and struggling Oklahoma team.....they didn't deserve a title shot. Maybe next year. [/ QUOTE ] Florida suffered one loss, Boise suffered no losses, makes a lot of sense!! Not like this colleges can pick their schedules. These bowl games are million dollar deals and it will be hard for other schools to show their talent to the world. We all, or most thought Ohio State would hands down beat Florida State, the tables were turned and Florida gave them a beating. So what does the media know and "tougher" schedules mean? Ok lets line my pro bowl team with two losses up against your high school team who is undefeated and see how that goes.....thats basically what your saying. Record doesn't mean crap. My baseball team in HS went undefeated my senior year....we made the first round in state and got hammered. I'm not saying Boise state doesnt deserve respect, but they woulda had losses if they had either OSU or Florida's schedule. By the way colleges do have a say in their non-conference schedules....... I think the best thing to happen to the BCS system is to start having play-off games. All it will do is bring in more money to these schools and maybe hush all the critics. To the media Ohio State had already won that game before they even took a snap, heck the kick-off and 16 seconds off the clock showed that Ohio State was there to play. Then something happend, Florida took the field and in the end put on a great show. Just goes to show, all the hype does not always pick a winner or even call a close game. As we stand now I think that Boise state SHOULD be considered for the #1 ranking....at the very least #2. Kat just like you said your HS baseball team went undefeated in regular season and then lost in the playoffs. You want to be the champ you gotta keep winning simple as that. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2 Posted January 9, 2007 Report Share Posted January 9, 2007 Re: Should Boise State be #1? right now? no...but they are on thier way to gettting their shot...they might not get it next year either, but they have been dominating their conference for 6 years or so, and have have several undefeated seasons in that time. is it their fault the rest of the teams in their conference aren't very good? no, but i think they should slowly be rewarded for what they are doing. they beat an oklahoma team who could have very easily been in the national championshiop talks if they weren't jipped out of that oregon game. next year they may get a better bowl game, or maybe even the national championship game if undefeated, but i think it is only fair that they eventually get a shot if they continue to do what they are doing. The term National Champion is nothing more than a label. I say if the Boise State folks want to print up some national champion t-shirts, hats, etc. and label themselves champion then go for it and wear them proudly! You are the only team that went undefeated at the highest level of college football. Florida is welcome to do the same in my opinion - they had a great year and beat a pretty decent OSU team. Bottom line is get rid of the 30 some-odd bowl games and have a 16 team playoff like other levels of college ball do. Make these teams earn a national championship and not just a label. Here's what I think about it: The Seminoles have always taken the flack for not having a tough schedule and when they USED to be in the Top 1 or 2, people would say they didn't deserve it because they never played anyone worthy ( except Florida). That being said, I think it would be GREAT to have a playoff system somehow. And though Boise State is a good team, I still don't think they could beat Florida. But I'd sure love to see them try.
