Hillbilly
I was hunting on my uncles property, I was hunting a small timber lot, There was a main funnel that the bucks were using to slip in and out unoticed. The funnel was their main route in and out of the cornfields that was only 50 yards away. I sat in climber on October 8th 1999. It was mid-morning around 10:30. Three small does came walking in from behind me from there bedding area. This bedding area was huge. It was half of a football field. The does came downwind of me, one was nervous and kept looking back. Then slowly a little 6 pointer emerged from his bed, followed by a little fork buck. The rut was peaking cause the early cold weather we got that year. The two young bucks didn't show any interest toward the does. I thought to myself another buck must be in the area and must be bigger than these two. Then out of my left eye I saw this buck on the ridge behind the huge thicket looking straight at the does, he started to snort and stomp his feet down. Thinking I was busted, I sat and watch him make his way down. He walked about 10 yards in front of my tree I was in. I didn't want to get noticed by the other deer so I watched him walk by. His ears were back and ready to take out anything that stood in his way. He ran off the two bucks, and I mean ran off. He chased them with his antlers pointing at their butts. After all that the deer started to move slowly into the path of the funnel and out to the field. I bleated with the Can and slowly the buck stopped and looked toward my location. He was at least 20 yards away from me. When he turned his head I slowly started to get up and then quickly came to full draw. He was walking and I bleated with my mouth, but he didn't stop, but did slow up his walk a little. I released my Arrow and connected into his lung. The jumped up and kicked his back legs. He didn't know I was there and I don't think he knew what just tagged him. He slowly trotted off and stood for bout a 3 seconds and walked 5 steps and dropped over. When I went to look at the buck I harvested the arrow went into his ribcage and came out on the other side right in front of his shoulder. He field dressed at 215lbs and was 3 and 1/2 years of age. Didn't get him scored, didn't think he would and really didn't care.
