Strut10
Re: red dot or scope I like the red dot. Never a problem picking up the reticle in any lighting condition. No magnification to throw off your range estimation. Small & compact & light. You can get a dandy for $150.

Guest alex30808
Re: red dot or scope I am interested in feed back on this subject aswell...I know that my 835 is drilled and tapped for a base...so...just what is the difference in the two? Marc, What made you go with a Red Dot v/s a reticle
Guest gobblingghost
Re: red dot or scope I have a scope on both my turkey guns. For one reason. Me and batteries DON'T get along. I had a red dot once on another rifle. battery went out at the moment of truth. It had to go after that. You can get scopes with 0 mag. Alex if your interested in looking at mine let me know and I'll pack them to go to Atlanta.
3seasons
Re: red dot or scope I like my red dot because I like to shoot with both eyes open. I have a Bushnell trophy with the 4 different dot options. I use the dot with the circle around it because at 30yds the outer circle is the same size as my pattern. (About 13") I have shot a few turkey guns with scopes, I do like them also. I know if you have some magnification and you’re looking at a turkey walking towards you if you’re not careful you will shoot at him to far. If you go with a scope get a low magnification 1-6pwr (it is nice to zoom in and look at those spurs though.) That’s my $.02 good luck. You will be happy with either. As far as battery life, if you change them out every year you shouldn’t have any problem. If you forget and leave it on it should run for about 2 days. I keep an extra in my vest just in case. I also have a low see through base so if I have to I can shoot my iron sights.

maytom
Re: red dot or scope Although I never used a red dot sight before, I'm very partial to using a scope. Something about batteries gives me worries.

[/ QUOTE ] EXACTLY!! I change my batteries before each season even if they don't need it. I also keep an extra in the vest. I've practiced swithching batteries with the gun up & in shooting position. I believe I could do it with a gobbler in shooting range and not get busted if I had to. It's not hard to do.

Marc, What made you go with a Red Dot v/s a reticle [/ QUOTE ]I went with a red dot scope because it has super fast target acquisition in low light with the green dot and the red dot works awesome in the bright daylight. Also as stated before when using the circle with the dot in the middle,at 40 yds if the turkey head is in the circle you kill the bird so there is no need to be dead on the target. POINT-N-SHOOT! WVreddot870
Re: red dot or scope I've got the original Tasco PP4---it takes 2 batteries and is very bright even in bright sunlight--can't find red dots with 2 batteries anymore
Slugger
Re: red dot or scope If you decide to go for the red dot i suggest looking into buying a reflex sight. in my opinion they are the best sight for a turkey gun. i have a 2.5x32 scope on my 835 but if i had it to do over id have bought a bushnell holosight instead. they are xpensive but there are other brands well within your price range
Valkrie1357
Re: red dot or scope 3 X 9 variable X 32 on a Rem 870 With side mount / look under, so I can use the open sights if I want to. Had that set up in the past (I needed it because I couldn't see my sights & the target.) Had Lasix eye Surgery last year, so I may take my scope off, But for now I can still use both. johnf
Re: red dot or scope Red dot. I've got a $30 BSA that has been through literally thousands of rounds and is still dead on. Instant target aquision light good light
LETMGROW
Re: red dot or scope I am partial to my Simmons Pro diamond 1.5-5X32 with ill. ret. Best of both worlds. Keep the turkey's head in the diamond and boom- no more turkey. This can also work as a slug scope out to useful slug ranges.
