Definately some similar genetics there!! That's a nice looking mount you did. How long did it take?

[/ QUOTE ]

To clarify I only did the Euro mount. My dad's buddy did the shoulder mount.

The Euro mount took me about 4 days. One to boil and clean off the skull. Another day sanding it lightly with 80 grit sand paper. Then belaching it with the kit and then a light spray of Kilz and then screwed it on.

KEY POINT. to screw it on I put bondo in the brain cavity to screw into. As well I put bondo in the nasal area and sanded it down. This is due to the thin bone and the lack of areas to screw into.

That is a nice looking mount. Debated doing my 8 pointer that i shot up by Houghton Lake like that but went ahead and am getting a shoulder mount. We hunt up there for gun season every year. Do you live up there or just hunt up there? We hunt NW a little from the lake. Up by Morristown.

I just hunt up there. We have about 165 acres SW of Houghton Lake near Moddersville. Bow and Rifle hunt up there, the herd has become very small in the last 5 years hasn't it?

Re: Finished European Mount

Looks very nice. Came out really white. Good job. I did notice that the end of the nose bones are missing. Did they break off or did you just take them off. Only reason I noticed is the board was longer than the skull & I turned & looked at my boys & noticed it was missing the end. Looks great though.

I accidentially broke the nose portion off, not intentionally. The antlers were that white when I shot him........not sure why but I did not paint the antlers.

Nice buck and great job on the mount. I use to hunt the houghton lake area, off Jeffs road by the porter ranch (where the Dnr use to have the deer pens). Congrats

Oh cool. Our property is off of Blue Road and McVetty. I am sure you have now seen the high fence hunting area over there. It hurt our property for a while casue the deer used to come off that high ground down in the swamp to us smirk.gif
