Re: snake boot

Remember to get a boot with speed lacers above the ankle instead of D-rings. They are waaaay easier to adjust lacing tension with the speed lacers. A poorly adjusted pair of snake boots is the most miserable piece of footwear you can spend the day in. Also........invest in a pair of snake boot socks. Wear them over a pair of polypropylene sock liners. Well worth the small investment. wink.gif

Re: snake boot

I got the Irish Setter by Red Wing. They are waterproof and snakeproof. But what sold me on them was that they have a side zipper instead of laces. This makes it alot easier to get on and off. I have had them for over a year now and I have not had one problem with them of any kind and I have abused them alot. The only thing that I am not sure on is if they are really snakeproof. I have not had a chance to test them yet and I hope I never do. Any way here is a link to the boots that I have.

I have a pair of Rocky's. They do work. I know this for a fact. They have been field tested. But mine are NOT waterproof. My feet get wet in grass.

Re: snake boot

I've definately got experience in this topic b/c i've searched for a pair of good snake boots for some time and spent lots of money doing it. Do yourself a favor and get a pair of Woody Armors from the Muck Boot Company. Its a snake proof slip on rubber boot that will blow your mind as to their comfort, fit nothing like an ordinary rubber boot.

Other advice. . . stay away from the Rocky Longbeards (just my opinion) but i've had 2 pair, my dad has had 2 pair, and my brothers had 1 pair. . . . all will leave you with wet feet. . . now we all wear the Woody Armors.

Stay away from Chippewa's . . . . same story.

Re: snake boot

i've got a pair of the redhead ones (not the leather ones, mine have a full cordera outer and are about 99$), they are extremely comfortable, great ankle support, great grip (hunt alot of hills/ridges), lightweight, waterproof (and I assume snake proof), and did i mention comfortable ???

Mine are $99 RedHeads, too. I've had 'em for about 7 years now and they must have a billion miles on them. They are still waterproof and are so comfy, I wear 'em even when I ain't in snake country. laugh.gif

Re: snake boot

I picked up a pair of the Cabela's Pinnacle boots. So far very waterproof and very comfortable. They have a front zipper. Easy on and off.

I like my RedHead snake boots but they lost their waterproof after a couple of years. Camp Dry will get back for a few days per spray though.

Well, is seems I'm a little late on this thread, but I just want to let you know that I have been through a few different brands of snake boots and the Danner Pronghorns are my favorite with gortex. I will probably buy another pair when I wear these out, although I have been wearing TurtleSkin Snake Gaiters lately, so it will be a while. I think I prefer the gaiters overall though as they are lighter, cooler, and more comfortable if you buy a good pair.

Here is a link to the site where I learned about the boots and gaiters: www.snakeproofgear.com
