Not what you like to see.

Found this deer on some public last. Not sure how it was taken. Never oufnd a bullet hole, could have been taken legally somehow and the tag put on teh antler, but a shame to see the whole deer wasted. Looked really fresh also. The deer appears to have been gutted, rack was cut off, and I am not sure about the hind quarters, if they took them or what.

THe deer may not have been shot either, roadkill maybe, but this was off on a B maintanence one way road, still a waste of a nice deer either way.

Hind end, the leg is lifted in the air. Not sure if an animal could clean it up that nice.

That's kind of weird. The person took the time to gut it, but only took steaks, glands, and rack. I would question why a person would do all the extra work for. Perhaps someone poached it and heard someone coming while they were processing it, so didn't have time to finish, and abandoned it?

Re: Not what you like to see.

Well I am still trying to figure it out. There was now bullet hole, and not much for noticable damage like it got hit from a car. My dad thought maybe the DNR confiscated it and dropped it there for the coyotes to eat. Could be possible. Or whoever shot it, tagged the antlers, cut em off, and for reason unknown took the hindquarters UNLESS the hindquarters are already eaten by predators. Maybe they gut it in the field drug it to the truck and were just like, screw it lets cut the rack and leave. Who knows really, just a waste though!

Maybe somebody shot it, gutted it, had it hanging, then somebody stole the deer for the antlers and dropped the body off there? confused.gif Because I can't see why somebody would shoot it and bother gutting it if they just wanted the antlers.

That is really weird, just cannot understand why someone would go to the trouble to gut one if they just wanted the rack. Almost looks like the deer had been hung and the skin where it was hung from on the hocks was torn. A shame for sure. Bieng that you found no hole, maybe it was roadkill.

Re: Not what you like to see.

Coulda been a lotta things.I posted a couple years back about a buck we got that had been hit by a car or something, I opened him up to gut it and the infection was terrible inside it, green bloody crap oozed out of it and the smell was worse then anything Ive ever seen.I left it lay where it dropped but if someone had found it it woulda looked a lot like that except I didnt take the antlers.Wouldnt take long for the scavengers to clean up the guts and even cart off a hindquarter if it was cut loose already. If there was something wrong with the deer maybe the rack was all that was salvagable. confused.gif

Re: Not what you like to see.

I really think it is one of 2 things. You can tell the deer was hung with a deer hook by the holes in its tarsal gland area. So the deer was hung then the hunter either left it too long or didn't want it so he got rid of it, or someone stole it from a hunter and just wanted the rack. Either way it is a terrible thing to waste a deer like that. Don't understand people sometimes.
