Strut10
Re: OTP ... Elk-Gun I'd probably have to an additional, higher yet, status level if a feller looked to join the OTPG with that piece.

Born2Hunt
Re: OTP ... Elk-Gun That would place you very high in the OTPG if you could afford to but it and carry it hunting for a day or two.(21#) WOW!
Strut10
Re: OTP ... Elk-Gun [ QUOTE ] I don't know Strut, there is no "magnum" in the name. [/ QUOTE ] This definitely falls into the "etc." category of Article 2 of the OTPG Charter. Article 2. You must own and shoot a centerfire, magnum rifle cartridge or cenerfire pistol cartridge .429" or larger. (some exceptions without formal "magnum" designation will be considered i.e. Rigby, Nitro Express, etc)

Canadian_Goose
Re: OTP ... Elk-Gun you don't have to carry that gun far.... just sit on the highest mountain and any elk you see out to a mile and a half is fair game

Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: OTP ... Elk-Gun Oh man, that would just be too much fun to own and shoot! If I had that, I know I'd have to set up for the 2000 yard shot on the coyote.
bowana
Re: OTP ... Elk-Gun I'll stick to my 338-378 Weatherby Mag. At a little less than 11 pounds, I can at least make it up the mountain with out having a coranary! 23+ pounds would be a little rough to cart around. But you have to admit, a 750 grain bullet traveling at 2800 feet per second would gain a little attention at impact.
Pudd
Re: OTP ... Elk-Gun my boss and his family own three custom BMG 50's, they weigh 38.5lbs with the scope and bipod, they're very accurate and not to bad on the shoulder with that kind of weight. but as far as ear protection, plugs & muffs are a definate ++++++++
robk
Re: OTP ... Elk-Gun i fired one similar to that at a local range and i have to say this with all cander. if the bullet don't kill the elk the noise will lol. i am going to using a 35 whelen for my elk gun and i know it will knock him down but you have double the power and triple the noise so i would guess you would be able to kill him one way or another lol rob k
iron buck
Re: OTP ... Elk-Gun I agree that it is a BIT HEAVY to lug up the rockies The scope is also a bit big for my tatse. Even for a single shot long range rig like this.
robk
Re: OTP ... Elk-Gun might as well buy a mortar. your going to waste a lot of meat to start with and if you don't have a safari guy carrying it all over the rockies your in trouble. i would suggest something in a whelen 35 not as heavy and still shoots a nice big bullet lol rob k
