Turkeygirl
I was looking at one the knot tying tools in Cabela's - wondering which one any of you might recommend? Or what are the basic knots I will need to know or have a tool that helps tie them? I've done the slinch knot and improved clinch knot by hand for tying my flies on, and the nail knot for tying my line backing onto the fly line (pain in the butt to do by hand, lol). Ok, so let me know your thoughts; thanks!

muggs
Re: Knot tying tools here's the best knot-tying tool I've ever used. Its really great for the nail knot. http://www.orvis.com/store/product_choic...p;feature_id=17 That being said. The only knots you'll really need will be the surgeons, surgeons loop, and a duncan loop (also known by a few different names). The surgeons is really easy and you can tie it on stream with no problem. You can also use the surgeons to connect different diameter lines to each other with no problem (like fly line to leader, leader to tippet etc...) Just learn those three, along with the nail knot for now...that's all you'll need. Then you can add more knots once you get comfortable.
