Re: Mechanical Broadheads??? Which One???

[ QUOTE ]

Been thinking about trying a mechanical broadhead for next year. Not that there is anything wrong with my Muzzy's! Just wanted to try them since I never did before. I would certainly use one without the rubber o-ring!

So which one do you like?

[/ QUOTE ]

Rocky Mountain Snypers or the Rage are great mechanicals! Would not hesitate to pick these heads to kill a trophy!

I'd just stick to the Fixed Blades..no room for error

I would say your right too! But I would like to try and test them out. I have heard a lot of pro's and con's about them. So in the off season this summer I going to test a few out. Just want to know which ones you all use! Then again, maybe BT reviews might have more info too!

100 grn. Grim Reaper Mechanical wink.gif

There was also a Doe taken as well with a Grim Reaper... Just didn't get a chance for a picture.. wink.gif

John if you're thinking on trying a mechanical head,,, most that are produced these days are going to do what they were designed for IMHO ... I just happen to have killed 2 nice deer with the Grim Reapers.... wink.gif

That deer is dead from laughter at that hat Luke. tongue.gifgrin.gif

If I were to shoot mechanicals, it would be either the Rage or Rocky Mountain Snypers. The Rage's are a lot like the Snypers, the blades open by sliding back, not flipping out.

I know you said you are just wanting to try them out, but I would take the $30 you are going to spend on 3 mechanicals and get yourself 6 more Muzzy's. wink.gif Unless you shoot the MX series. smirk.gif

Re: Mechanical Broadheads??? Which One???

I've been using the Spitfire's since they came out. I'm sure that most other mechanicals are just as good, but these things fly perfect for me. I switched from fixed blades because I don't like to have to adjust my sights from practice - to 'in the field'. I've shot them with dual cams and solo cams - currently the Mathews Switchback set at 65lbs. Never had a problem with them opening on impact or making a big enough entry hole.

Ive heard that its only best to take broadside shots only with mech. Think I'll stick with fixed..JMO but I feel more comfortable with em.

Re: Mechanical Broadheads??? Which One???

Only people I hear knocking mechs are ones who never had a reason to try them b/c they used fixed. Spitfires will do the job for you no doubt. I've taken all kinds of shots with them and have had nothing but excellent succes with only shooting 60 lbs. Very many were pass throughs. I've never heard someone use spitfires make a good shot and complain about them. Even the best fixed blade with a bad shot won't get the job done. Give Spitfires a try, theres a reason they are 10$ a piece.

Re: Mechanical Broadheads??? Which One???

If there's nothing wrong with your muzzy's then why the heck are you even thinking about switching? If it aint broke, don't fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Muzzy's are a heck of alot better than any mechanical. There sharper and you don't have to worry about them failing.

You will wound deer if you shoot mechanicals. They don't always work and if you hit a shoulder, have fun tracking a blood trail that has no blood.

For the sake of the deer, stay with your muzzy's.

I used to shoot mechanical until I wouned three deer in as many seasons, including one monster!!! I'm done with mechanicals!!!!!!!!!!!

and the only people that shoot mechanicals are people who dont know how to tune their bow, lol

[/ QUOTE ]

That's what my proshop is for lol. Nothing wrong with either head just alot of people knock stuff without having tried it out themselves. My bow was well tuned and fixed just were all over the place for me. Mechanicals flew just like my field point and have done an excellent job for me.

Re: Mechanical Broadheads??? Which One???

Nothing flies as true as a mechanical...no tuning nessa.

ALL 3 of the Mechanical type heads I have used have performed flawlessly. They are all 100gr...

NAP Shockwave("o" ring type), NAP Spitfires and Wasp Jak Hammers. All one arrow, died within sight.

I was impressed with the penetration of the Shockwave 2 years ago. I made a less that stellar shot and hit the front shoulder...it went thru BOTH shoulders and a good chunk of heart, and half the arrow was thru. These expandibles opened and penetrated shoulder bones and collapsed this buck on the spot. The only time I have ever sat a deer down with a bow. I feel all the bugs have been worked out of expandibles and they are reliable killing tools.

Sure nothing relieves the mind of worry better than a fixed head. It always open...but dead is dead. One broadhead don't kill more than any other.

If the archer does their job, mechanical broadheads will do theirs.

For the record...I keep Spitfires in my quiver.
