Nick
I think I'm going to go buy one of these for my first pistol to deer hunt with. Any insight, pro's and con's before I make the move??

JJL
Re: S&W Model 460XVR? Spend the extra $$$$ and get the Performance Center model. They're 10 oz. heavier that helps with recoil, plus they have the integrated scope rail which in my opinion is a big plus. Don't skimp on glass. Magnification isn't so important since most shots will be under 200yards. But, durability is an issue. Recoil on these guns, despite what you hear, is very manageable. Just a step up from a 44 mag. However, muzzle blast is horrendous. Ear plugs and Muffs are a MUST. Hope I could help JJL
Nick
Re: S&W Model 460XVR? Is the integrated scope rail a must to be able to mount a scope? Or can one be mounted on the regular model? This was the one I was looking at. I've called around and this gun still goes for around $950. http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/s...amp;isFirearm=Y
JJL
Re: S&W Model 460XVR? No the integrated rail isn't mandatory for scope mounting. With the standard model a rail can be purchased and attached to the gun. Therein lies my point. By the time you purchase a mounting rail you're just a few dollars shy of the PC model. One less set of screws to wiggle loose with the integrated rail plus two extra inches of barrel. I got my PC for $1020.00. Maybe Charles will chime in on this issue, I know he has both and could give us his opinion. Have a good day JJL
Nick
Re: S&W Model 460XVR? Well I found the regular 460 XVR on sale for $860 but they didnt have any PC models on hand and said they were $1000. Thats $140....
snapper
Re: S&W Model 460XVR? Nick...I just looked those guns in my newest catalog (wholesale). Either the prices went up since the store you looked at or they are giving those guns away. My cost on a new 460 XVR is $964.50 and the 460 XVR Hunter is $1,042.50. Nick
Re: S&W Model 460XVR? Actually, I picked the gun up yesterday. Do you want to see a picture of the gun with the receipt stating $890?? I know the cheapest I found anywhere else was $980 and the gun shows they were going for $1100. But I picked this one up brand new at Guns Galore. They are one of the biggest gun dealers in the US, located about 40 minutes from me and apparently they can buy guns diretly from the factory. WNY_Whitetailer
Re: S&W Model 460XVR? Did you purchase a scope rail as well? If not, Jack Weigand sells some of the more durable on the market...Check him out. I have a Weigand scope mount on my Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in 44Mag...Here's a link to his website: Jack Weigand Jack also sells scope rings. He recommends at least 3 for S&W 460 and 500 Magnums...I would opt for 4 if room allows...
