i would imagine that you cant really release too many of them. from the looks of the coon above his foot is smashed pretty bad. Man did he tear up the ground tryin to get out. my uncle told me that he caught a skunk in a trap once and he ate his leg off tryin to get out. the only catch is that he didnt eat it off above the trap so he was still caught. a man from my church back home caught a wolverine in a trap about a month ago. now hes gettin it mounted. pretty rare around home.

OK so I'm kind of new to the whole trapping thing, so once you get one in the trap then what? Shoot it, club it..? What if you have something you want to release? Is that possible without getting bit or something?

First thing you do is place your sets to absolutely minimize accidental catches. Second thing you do is choose a trap of an appropriate size for the critters in the area. A target animal (in my trap) is dispatched with a .22 short hollow point to the ear. Kills them instantly. An accidental catch can, most times, be released unharmed with a noose pole or some sort of covering (blanket, garbage can, etc.). A foot in a trap does not spell permanent crippling for an animal like some would have you believe. wink.gif

P.S. Yes..........I have had my "paw" snapped in a trap. I know what I'm talking about. grin.gif

I did the same thing, I set one off on my index finger on my left hand.. I diddn`t want to re-bed a perfect set, so instead of doing it the right way, by picking the trap up and clearing the dirt, like a goof, i stuck my finger under the pan, and i paid for it, by having a No. 1 1/2 montgomery, as a peice of jewlery, crap did that sting... Listen to Strut he knows his stuff..
