Guest ital_70 Posted January 17, 2007 Report Share Posted January 17, 2007 I recently bpught a Benelli Nova Turkey gun,24in barrel. I loved the Advantage timber finish. Its about the 8th turkey gun Ive ever owned, Im so frustrated with it Im ready to sell it!!!! I bought 2 choke tubes, a Truglo .665 consrtiction and a Undertaker Thats .680... Ive stuck with 3.5 Federal loads shot 4s,5s,6s and the best Ive gotten is maybe 25 hits at thirty yards with 3.5 #5s.Thats not what Im lookin for or expecting from a 3.5 load,I had an 835 that was way better..Im considering selling and goin with a Moss 535,Its lighter and shorter. I choose the Benelli to shoot 3.5s and was ok with it being a bigger heavier gun expecting to shoot a swarm of 3.5 #4s.. Choke,load help Benelli N That gun with those choke/load combo's should be spitting a lot better of a pattern that what you claim to have gotten. Are you sure you're not pulling the shot at all? A lot of guns (in my experience) pattern 3" better than 3.5" Just a suggestion. Also try shooting it at a piece of cardboard 3'x3' it will show you your whole pattern. In my experience, any 3 1/2" gun will shoot VERY well with a Comp-N-Choke XXX-Full tube and a Winchester Supreme #6 shell. I am not saying this combo will be your gun's absolute optimum pairing. But I have never seen this combination not provide a solid, killing pattern to 40 yards in any gun I've ever tried it in. In other words........it's the absolute best starting point I know of. [/ QUOTE ] As far as lead loads go, I have found the Winchester Supreme HV loads to generally pattern better than the others. The Winchester Elite loads (high-density shot) will put another 10%-15% more pellets on target at any given distance.......if you don't mind paying over $2/shot. Expensive but will out pattern any load out there. If you want to go a little cheaper look at the Hevi 13 load teamed with an Indian Creek choke. [/ QUOTE ] What he said! I also use a C-N-C tube, 49 head and neck hits at 40 yards. But I was also thinking maybe try the 3" loads as well. I know you want to use the 3.5", at least its a try! Also, maybe you need to see where your pattern is hitting, maybe its hitting constantly in one area. A move of the sights(if you have them) would be all it takes! Good luck! Choke,load help Benelli Nova I use the Tru Glo .665 choke with an 870.......I tried several different brands of 3 1/2in loads in #4 #5 and #6 shot from 2oz to 2 1/4oz shot and believe it or not I got my best results with the cheap Remington Nitro Turkey loads 2oz of #5 shot,,,2nd was the Winchester Supreme Turkey loads 2oz #4 shot......The Federal loads that I tried put most of my pattern about 3inches to the left.........But all guns are different one load that works well in one gun may not work all that great in another gun.... Choke,load help Benelli Nova owned a nova since they first came out.polish the barrel,smooth up the trigger,buy a comp-n-choke .655, win hi velocity 6's or 5's kick's .670 for hevi 13 or jelly head.655.terror.640 hevi shot.my nova will shoot federal flight control's but really likes win hi velocity or hevi 13. Choke,load help Benelli Nova I have a nova with a jelly head .655 and I have found that out of my gun Win 3" #5's are patterning better than anything else. Not alot of differnce in the 4's and 5's but I liked the results with the fives better! I am getting a good kill pattern out to about 55 yds with my setup! Choke,load help Benelli Nova Thanks for allthe suggestions and info, For what this gun cost I expected alot more than something with a forestock that rattles, and for its weight and size I expected to find a 3.5 load to pattern good in it, especially without all the additional exspense of aftermarket choke tubes, Very bad taste for Benellis now. Choke,load help Benelli Nova I put a HS Undertaker choke on my Nova and shoot 3-1/2 Win #5 without any problem. I have patterned the Remingtons and Federals as well, but the Winchesters seem to work best. As far as the forend, the allen wrench helps some, but it still rattles a little. Choke,load help Benelli Nova I have a benelli as well and i got the xtra full choke that came with it and i shoot the winchester Xtended ranges at the target from 40 and it smokes the target every time... I just recently ordered the Comp N Choke because Strut10 told me to...lol! better listen to a man that knows his stuff...
