Bob LeBlanc
...and I'm figurrin' on either the Ruger 10/22 or the Remington 597. How've these guns worked for all you fellers?...and if you've shot both, which would you rank higher? Strengths?... Pitfalls?... Thanks, Bob

wtnhunt
Re: Considering a new .22 semi... While I have heard a lot of good things about the ruger, I had a used 10/22 for a little while, and it was not accurate at all. Not sure what the deal was with that little rifle, but I did not keep it. Have heard mixed reviews on the 597.
johnf
Re: Considering a new .22 semi... Consider also the marlin model 60. It's not real fancy, but they are very reliable guns.
RangerClay
Re: Considering a new .22 semi... I have owned my 10/22 since 1983. It is always the first .22 I grab from my collection when I want to get the job done right.
TCFORLIFE
Re: Considering a new .22 semi... my ruger 10/22 shoots great. I have a green mtn. 920 barrel and a hogue stock. Never had any problems.

[/ QUOTE ] I have had a 10/22 for 20 years now. it use to be very accurate, then after a while, it got worse and worse... when I changed the wood stock to a hogue stock, I noticed that the barrel lug/clamp was loose... I tightened it up and it was perfect. love my 10/
too_pointer
Re: Considering a new .22 semi... The Rem. 597's are well known to be much more accurate out of the box than the Rugers. If you don't mind dumping more $$ into the 10/22's to get them as accurate, go for it, lots of people like to change parts around alot. too_
David_218
Re: Considering a new .22 semi... Thompson/Center makes a nice .22 LR semi-auto rifle.
Guest Hunter36
Re: Considering a new .22 semi... I have a ruger 10/22 and love it. shoots great. I also have a Marlin that looks almost the same as the Ruger not sure of the model but it shoots identicle to it.
LETMGROW
Re: Considering a new .22 semi... I may have the only Ruger 10/22 in the world which doesn't shoot well. Take it out and it will be way off the mark. Sight it in and it will group like crazy all day. The next time I take it out, same thing. I have had no less than 4 scopes on it so I can't blame the optics. I have had other good shooters try it with the same results. I have a 597. It shoots great everytime. Slugger
Re: Considering a new .22 semi... i have a t/c 22 classic. I have shot it side by side with remmington ruger and kimber 22s and the kimber was the only 1 that shot with my t/c(actually a little better than my t/c) but its a bolt action and should be more accurate. oh yeah i for got to mention my brothers henry lever action. but then again in the accuracy dept. its not worth mentioning. fun to shoot those lever guns are.
