two great Montana bucks

Was sifting through some photos from back in the good ole days and found this one so thought I would share it. The buck on the left was shot by my hunting partner on 11/23/91. This is a terrific non-typical buck with lots of character scoring 176 2/8. We estimated him to be 8-9 years old. The buck on the right is one I shot two days later - about 3 miles from my buddies. He has a nice typical frame with just enough non-typical inches to be scored as such - he went 176 1/8. Two completely different bucks from the same general area, shot two days apart, scoring within 1/8 inch of each other smile.gif. What a great season that was! Sorry for the picture quality - I had to scan it in. Mark

Can you give us a little more detail other than NW Montana? im not tryin to steal your place i just want to see how close they were killed to my home town in Choteau. Its about 50 miles NW of Great Falls.

These came out of the Yaak in the extreme NW corner - unfortunately, that winter of 96/97 really hurt the whitetail population and it never has recovered fully.

I will be in Choteau here in a couple weekends for a basketball tournament my son is playing in. I really like the Choteau/Augusta area. You've got some monster whitetails living up there I know - maybe some day I'll get a chance to hunt them.
