MCH
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores Shot my first 3-D of the year. Also, used my new XT for the first time as well. Ended up with a 256 on a 25 target course, scoring offset X's. Had 7 X's and 4-8's. Not bad considering I had only sighted in a 20 and 30 yard pin and probably only shot the bow less than a 50 times all told. Not sure how I placed because its a two day shoot, but I should find out later this week. A friend of mine that normally shoots right up there with me, ended up with a 216 with 2-zero's. He really had a rough day. The course featured several extreme uphill and dowhill shots along with 3 elevated platform shots.
ultratec1
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores Went and shot the Holiday shoot in Council Bluffs yesterday, man what a fun shoot. Thought that I would be a little brave and shoot the Money class. Well I got lucky Ended up finishing 1st in the AMBHFS class and walked away with a nice check. I gotta say that I've had quiet the lucky streak going now. First the Iowa Pro-Am win and now this. Maybe I should retire while I'm ahead. Pics just for youse guys this is the last 3 arrows of the round.. [image][/image] i have a shoot this weekend in Des Moines. its a 300 5 spot round. Pinwheel5
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores Shot a fair 300-52X last Monday and then followed it with a nasty 299-49X yesterday. Mathews Pro Ken Likens told me that it looked like I was not concentrating on every shot. He's right. After I shot the bluebird I got mad and cleaned the last 14 x's. Jennie Richardson, another Mathews pro said that I looked a lot more aggressive, yep, I was ticked. If I could keep from getting sloppy I could shoot 57 or 58x's. Hard to do when I only get to shoot once a week, twice if I am lucky. Oh well, maybe next time.
Tony
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores Matt be gratefull you get to shoot with very good shooters that know a lot and will help you. nothing makes the learning curve easier than if you have top shooters to shoot with. i shot tonight and i shot very well. 300-57X. had a real flier one end that almost made the pond. thank goodness from those Goldtip 30X pros. i have a small 5 spot shoot in Des Moines sunday at 11:30. should be fun. MCH
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores Just got back from a shoot at Paris, TX. It was a 30 target course scoring center 12's. Ended up shooting a 332 with 16X's. It was good enough for 1st place overall. I dropped a few shots towards the end(got cold), but all in all, I shot pretty good. Not bad for a new bow. [/ QUOTE ] We were scoring center X's Tony. If it would've been official ASA scoring rings, I doubt I would've broke 310. But, yeah, I hope to be ready for the Pro-Am. Also, found out the other day that there will be an Arkansas ASA State Qualifier and State Championship within 45 minutes from here. It's kind of sad, but probably the only State Qualifier I won't be able to attend is Oklahoma's.(I'll be able to make the Texas one too.) fgpatton
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores shot my fifth 5 spot(dots here in ky)shoot and shot 300 and 49Xs, halfway a arrow broke and i only had five and borrowed one that was 3 inches to long and 75 grains to light or i would have done better
Pinwheel5
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores 32 up, wow. I don't care if they were center 12's or not, that is impressive. Beats my best 3-d, 25 target course score of 24 up baddly. Keep it up. Won a 3-d in open class on Sunday and followed it up with the worst X-count at indoor in the last 6 or 7 years. Up and down, up and down, etc.......
Tony
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores fgpatton thats pretty darn good with a funky arrow. im not sure i could have done any better. that differant arrow would have messed me all up. good shooting Tony
ultratec1
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores After a good start to the indoor season I started to drift off on my score. After trying new things within the past 3 weeks I have come to one conclusion...............Don't fix what aint broke. I had recently changed my anchor, grip and release thinking that I should listen to others on what is working for them, thinking that this would help me with improving my score. WRONG 300-50x,300-48x,300-46x 299-48x. That is how things started gradually going down hill. While I was shooting today something hit me like a mack truck. "Why in the world am I not shooting MY style.?!?!?" Not what others are doing or the supposedly proper form. I went back to my ol'trusty index finger release and anchored my thumb behind my neck. 300-59X was the result. The one X that I missed was out by a mere 1/8th of an inch. I guess what I'm saying is don't go with what so and so is doing if what you have is working!
MCH
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores Nice shooting ultra. Sometimes, the easiest solution is the one that makes the most sense. Went to our first local shoot of the year yesterday. Shot a 277 on a 28 target course scoring center 12's. It was a very humbling course, to say the least. My first target of the shoot was a buck at 35 yards. I shot it for 32 and somehow managed a 5 on it. Not sure why, but my arrow just dropped like an anchor. Must've been bad form, but it had me worried for sure. 4th target out of the gate was a strutting turkey at 40 yards on the nose. Just missed a 10 by a quarter inch, but was happy with my 8. All in all, my yardage was tight all day long, but my shot execution was lacking. When it looked like I had a good chance at getting back to even, I made one of the worst executed shots I've made all year for another 8. All in all, I did OK. My 277 was good enough for second place overall, including all classes. The range owner was the only shooter to beat me and he shot a 278. Its these types of courses that really prepare you for the big ones.
hutchies
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores Indoor paper 3d started last night. Scoring 10, 8, 5, 0. Some spotties thought they were gonna smoke the course. Some of the targets were crows, groundhogs, squirrells, grouse, and other very small target that alot of times you couldn't even see the 8 ring on. Plus they put the little targets high like 7 feet and very low some only a foot off the ground. Backtension guys were having all kinds of problems. On the small targets the 10 ring is the size of a dime and 8 ring the size of a baseball. I shot a 164 out of 200. 5-10's 13-8's 2-5's <---those were the ones that bothered me. I punched on one of the 8's on a huge 10 ring and missed it. Hopefully I can pick it up next week. One 5 was on a low groundhog and the other on a low gopher. Cody shot a 114 but he was very nervous. Think he will stepup next week.
Tony
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores yea Ultra aint that the truth. shoot whats works best for you. you have the form and you know you can make the shot. now just work on duplicating it all the time everytime.. i also have begun to wander a little. but i am just trying a thing or 2 to see if it might help just a little. i might start shooting my new release the Z-Horn...so far its a X killer. oh yea almost forgot. i shot a 299-18 X vegas round the other night. finished it up with 30 shots on a 5 spot target 300-28X.. then just shot about 50 more for practice. trying a new release and adjusting my tiller to see if it helped me hold any better. i think it did. seems i like a 1/4 inch out of tiller in the top limb. Tony
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores negative on the Z horn release. its a Zeinith head on a scott longhorn release. i did what Ultratec1 said and quit messing with things and just settle into what works. i shot a nice little 300-56X 5 spot round tonight. but it went kind funny. drilled the 10 Xs in practice. then shot 19X the first game. then went on a dufus run of 3 more 4x ends to shoot 17 X the second game. then finished with 20 X the last game. any guesses as to what happened in the middle game ? yep darn brain got in the way again.. shot 40 more shots and shot 39 out of the last 40. total shots for the night was 110. shot a lot of inside out xs at the end. relaxing the bow arm is the key. seems i just didnt know what straight but relaxed meant. i know now, i think... ultratec1
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I shot a 300-22x on the vegas face the other night. I have never shot one before, just a boat-load of 299's and 298's. I finished with a 300-22X. Finally got that monkey off my back. Now if I could only get that 300-60X I would be happy.
MCH
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores Just got back from Paris. Shot a 322 with 12X's. Had a rough day starting off. My inserts began pulling out of my arrows. After talking to some other guys, I think my problem was I had cleaned the shaft off with acetone and that probably caused the bonding to break. Anyway, out of my first 10 shots, 4 arrows lost their inserts. I ended up having to shoot the "bottom of the barrell" arrows. The ones that didn't group as well as the others. But I finished strong. 7 X's in my last 10 shots. Was good enough for 3rd place. Got to meet a couple of Archey Talk shooters from Stillwater, songdogshooter and slowpoke. Good guys. We all shot in the same group. Songdog and I were pretty close most of the way. He pulled away at the first, but I was lucky enough to close the gap and pull off the win. Always fun to shoot with shooters from other towns.

hutchies
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores Week 2 Paper indoor 3d 161<---Dropped 3 points from last week Breakdown 5-10's......same as last week 12-8's 3-5's Fell subject to the ole gopher and groundhog again. Got a 5 on the crow. Pulled, anchored, and release went off a little premature. Had 5 arrows that were so close to the 10 ring they had to have people outside our group call them............so next week I will be shooting Easton XX78 2312's. Gonna make up some points hopefully. Cody picked up 20 points from last week shooting a 134.
Tony
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores well i finally pulled my head out of a hidden region and shot a 300-58X tonight in practice. i am slowly learning to keep my bow arm relaxed and concentrate. this is the best round i have shot this year. it seemed so easy, except them last 5 shots. but i kept it together. 19X 20X 19X.. Ultratec1 i owe you a lot buddy. you cant imagine how much you help this old guy out. now can you give me some tips on 3D ? ultratec1
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores Don't worry I will be sending you a bill You already knew the things that needed to be done its just that now you are applying them to your shooting. I bet you thought I was messing with ya when I said don't worry about the pin weren't you I will however give the credit to someone who has gotten me to where I'm at now and that is an old man named Mike (hope he don't read this) Keep shooting those X's we are going to need them at sectionals. Tony
Re: 2007 Competition and Practice scores shot some more practice today. another 300-58 X. cleaned the first 30 and then missed one. then another X in the final game lost. lots of inside out Xs. just using the same thing like the last practice round. relax the bow arm, concentrate on the center. let down when the shot starts to fall apart. Hmmm i wonder when the sky is going to fall. Shoot Strong Tony
