Gus
Have been looking around for a used a AR15 and finally found one, but really don't have a clue if it is a good deal or not. What I have found is a Bushmaster, .223 caliber, 14 1/2 barrel, colapsable stock, BSA red dot scope, 3 magazines, $1000 obo I will be using the gun for predator hunting mainly, but probably on hogs also. The guy told me that it has a flat top and that I could put any scope on it, but the BSA scope does come with it. What are your thougts on my find? johnf
Re: AR 15 They sell for about $1K at Gander Mt. here. I think if it's used, I would try to get it for a bit less.
ZooBear
Re: AR 15 I dont know which Bushmaster you are looking at but I bought the Varmiter with the 24" barrel and adjustable trigger for $880.00 new. Look on the Bushmaster web site and find your gun, deduct about $150.00 off list price and thats about what you will pay for a new one. Adjam5
Re: AR 15 Check that barrel..14 1/2" ? Unless that is a NFA gun,( that means registered machine guns, any rifle with a bbl less than 16" is a NFA gun and transfer tax and class 3 FFL is required for ownership) all barrels on rifles MUST be 16"min and 18" on a shotgun. Most AR lowers are not as critical as the upper unit.As long as you buy a good name brand lower, such as Bushmaster, Colt, DPMS ect. You could just buy the lower and build your own AR. Or even order a complete upper of the net. The reciever is the only item one needs to fill out paperwork for (ATFE 4473). Everything else you can order off the net. Also..keep in mind what kind of shooting you are gonna do with the AR. If you will be hunting with it, a slower rate of twist (1 in 8) is best for the heavier bullet weights 62 gr and up. Most standard AR's come with a 1 in 9 twist rate. That is a universal twist for MOST .223/5.56 ammo. Alot of 55gr mil surplus to shoot with. Our AR shoots best with the Black Hills 50gr V max., but it also shot well with that cheap russian wolf steel cased ammo. If you will be putting a scope on it you'd want a flat top upper so the scope mounts as close to the bore as possible. take into considerartion as to the size of the objective of the scope. Too large a objective, you will need scope mount risers. It comes as one piece with rings attached. We bought high rings to mount a 6-24X50mm Illuminated reticle BDC scope. I paid about $700 for mine 2 years ago. Bushmaster lower with a Colt upper. That $1000 price tag seems a little steep. Hope this info helps. wtnhunt
Re: AR 15 Seems high to me too Tonya. Have been looking some myself and saw some new ones on a site the other day ranging from $599 for olympic arms on up. Think it might have been atlantic firearms, would have to look back in my history to be sure. Here you go, here is a link atlanticfirearms
CDubWSR
Re: AR 15 Adjam5 - It is a 14.5" barrel but it has a different flash hider than a standard ar. Instead of being about and inch long and removable, it is 1.5" and fixed which brings the barrel up to the 16" min. As far as the gun goes that is probably a little high. The gun should sell for no more that $870 new, the mags are no more than 30 bucks each, which it comes with one when its new, and the bsa red dot shouldnt be too terribly expensive. If it were me i would offer him $850 and see where it goes from there.
LETMGROW
Re: AR 15 Bushmaster makes a lot of different models. I would visit their website and do some more shopping before buying. This sounds a little pricey for what it might be.
TexasDeerHunter
Re: AR 15 Don't know what part of central Texas you are in, but the Bell county expo center has a gun show this weekend. Most likely there will be some good buys on AR's there.

Gus
Re: AR 15 Still looking and have been looking at the Bushmaster site. I might call the guy and give him an offer, but he sent me some pics and I am not real sure that I would like the gun, it sure does look short. The gun is probably in good shape, because I think the guy is in some type of police work because he said that he is now issued an AR15 and no longer needs this one. I am thinking that I might just get the gun shop that I deal with to order me one like I want. Sure don't want to spend alot of money and then not like the gun and have to sell it. Guest Clay008
Re: AR 15 I have a Rock River Arms AR 15 the entry tactical version which is on the website. I would highly recommend them to anyone here. It has been alot of fun to shoot and, I can shoot anything through it without any issues. In my opinion you are going to have to spend at least $900 to get a high quality rifle. There are some cheaper ones out there such as the Olympic. Other brands such as the rock river arms, colt and bushmaster are going to cost a little more. Probably somewhere between $1000 and $1500. There are many different options that come with the ARs. This is going to affect the price. I would rather spend $1000 and know what I am buying then spend $600 and dislike the firearm. Good luck and let us know what you purchase!
