An Attitude of Gratitude

For most of us, life is busy and complicated. We have countless responsibilities, some of which begin before sunrise and many of which long after sunset. Amid the rush and crush of the daily grind, it is easy to lose sight of God and His blessings. But, when we forget to slow down and say "Thank Your" to our Maker, we rob ourselves of His presence, His peace, and His joy.

Our task, as believing Christians, is to praise God many times each day. Then, with gratitude in our hearts, we can face our daily duties with the perspective and power that only He can provide.

Gratitude changes the pangs of memory into a tranquil joy. Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Above and Beyond Our Circumstances

Should we accept only good from God and not adversity. Job 2:10 Holman CSB

All of us face difficult days. Sometimes even the most devout Christian men can become discouraged, and you are no exception. After all, you live in a world where expectations can be high and demands can be even higher.

If you find yourself enduring difficult circumstances, remember that God remains in His heaven. If you become discouraged with the direction of your day or your life, turn your thoughts and prayers to Him. He is a God of possibility, not negativity. He will guide you through your difficulties and beyond them.....far beyond.

When you realize that your circumstances, no matter how overwhelming or pressing, are ruled by a King whoe seeks your highest good, you can truly "consider it all joy...when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance...that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing"(James 1:2-4). A Time To Rest

Sometimes, the struggles of life can drain us of our strength. When we find ourselves tired, discouraged, or worse, there is a source from which we can draw the power needed to recharge our spiritual batteries. That source, of course, is God.

God expects us to work hard, but He also intends for us to rest. When we fail to take the rest we need, we do a disservice to ourselves and to our families.

Is your spiritual battery running low? Is your energy on the wane? Are your emotions frayed? If so, it's time to turn your thoughts and your prayers to God. And when you are finished, it's time to rest.

Prescription for a happier and healthier life: resolve to slow down your pace; learn to say no gracefully; resist temptation to chase after more pleasure, more hobbies, and more social entanglements. James Dobson

The decision to study the Bible-or not- is yours and yours alone. But make no mistake: how you choose to use your Bible will have a profound impact on you and your loved ones.

The Bible is the ultimate guide for life; make it your guidebook as well. When you do, you can be comforted in the knowledge that your steps are guided by a Source of wisdom and truth that never fails.

The Morning Watch

Each new day is a gift from God, and if you are wise, you will spend a few quiet moments each morning thanking the Giver.

Warren Wiersbe writes, "Surrender you mind to the Lord at the beginning of each day." And that's sound advice. When you begin each day with your head bowed and your heart lifted, you are reminded of God's love, His protection, and His commandments. Then, you can align your priorities for the coming day with the teachings and commandments that God has placed upon your heart.

So, if you've acquired the unfortunate habit of trying to "squeeze" God into the corners of your life, it's time to reshuffle the items in your to-do list by placing God first. And if you haven't already done so, form the habit of spending quality time with your Father in Heaven. He deserves it......and so do you.

I suggest you discipline yourself to spend time daily in a systematic reading of God's Word. Make this "quiet time" a priority that nobody can change. Warren Wiersbe

Not Enough Hours?

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night. Psalm 92:1-2 NKJV

If you ever find that you're simply "too busy" for a daily chat with your Father in heaven, it's time to take a long, hard look at your priorities and your values. Each day has 1,440 minutes-do you value your relationship with God enough to spend a few of those minutes with Him? He deserves that much of your time and more-is He recieving it from you? Hopefully so.

As you consider your plans for the day ahead, here's a tip: to organize your life around this simple principle: "God first." When you place your Creator where He belongs-at the very center of your day and your life-the rest of your priorities will fall into place.

The Guidebook

There's nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another, showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped for the tasks God has for us. 2 Timothy 3:15-17 MSG

God has given us a guidebook for righteous living called the Holy Bible. It contains thorough instructions which, if followed, lead to fulfillment, righteousness, and salvation. But, if we choose to ignore God's commandments, the results are as predictable as they are tragic.

God has given us the Bible for the purpose of knowing His promises, His power, His commandments, His wisdom, His love, and His Son. As we study God's teachings and apply them to our lives, we live by the Word that shall never pass away.

Today, let us follow God's commandments, and let us conduct our lives in such a way that we might be shining examples to our families, and, most importantly, to those who have not yet found Christ.

Excuses and More Excuses

We live in a world where excuses are everywhere. And it's precisely because excuses are so numerous that they are also so ineffective. Wehn we here the words, "I'm sorry but.....," most of us know exactly what is to follow: the excuse. The dog ate the homework. Traffic was terrible. It's the company's fault. The boss is to blame. The equipment is broken. We're out of that. And so forth, and so on.

Because we humans are such creative excusemakers, all of the really good excuses have already been taken. In fact, the high-quality excuses have been used, re-used, over-used, and abused. That's why excuses don't work-we've heard them all before.

So, if you're wasting your time trying to concoct a new and improved excuse, don't bother. It's impossible. A far better stategy is this: do the work. Now. And let your excellent work speak loudly and convincingly for itself.

Have to say I'm sorry guys. You know how it is....first one thing then another and the next thing you know you are just floating through life!

His Joy......and Ours

Billy Graham correctly observed, "When Jesus Christ is the source of our joy, no words can describe it." And C.S. Lewis note that, "Joy is the serious business of heaven." So here's a prescription for better spiritual health: Open the door of your soul to Christ. When you do, He will give you peace and joy.

Contagious Faith

Too Many Possessions

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15 KJV

How much stuff is too much stuff? Well, if your desire for stuff is getting in the way of your desire to know God, then you've got too much stuff-it's as simple at that.

On the grand stage of a well lived life, material possessions should play a rather small role. Of course, we all need the basic necessities of life, but once we meet those needs for ourselves and for our families, the piling up of possessions creates more problems than it solves. Our real riches, of course, are not of this world. We are never really rich until we are rich in spirit.

So, if you find yourself wrapped up in the concerns of the material world, it's time to reorder your priorities. And, it's time to begin storing up riches that will endure throughout eternity-the spiritual kind.

Today's Prayer

Lord, keep me mindful that material possessions cannot bring me joy-my joy comes from You. I will share that joy with family, with friends, and with neighbors, this day and every day. AMEN

The ‘Risk’ of Obedience

"[Abraham] was trusting God so much that he was willing to do whatever God told him to do. His faith was made complete by what he did – by his actions." (James 2:22 NLT)

To many Christians, "faith" means sincerely believing something is true when you don’t have any evidence. In fact, faith is acting on what you know full well is true: God is able to keep his promise and can be trusted to do it. Faith that is only theoretical conviction isn’t faith yet. Real faith – living faith, saving faith – does something about it.

God had promised Abraham that Isaac would be the father of an entire nation. When the Lord commanded him to sacrifice his only son, faith wasn’t some abstract issue of believing without evidence. Faith meant taking the risk of obedience – frightening as it was – because Abraham knew God could keep the promise even if Isaac died. Raising a son from the dead is right down God’s alley!

The life of faith is a life of taking risks that aren’t actually risky. When God puts a challenge before you – even one that seems crazy to your human nature – you can step out in confidence because you know God is able and faithful. When your faith and actions are working together, then your faith will be made complete.

Prayer: "Lord, what you want from us is exciting – and a little frightening too. It would be a lot easier to just stay with our ‘business as usual’ lives, but you have something seriously amazing in store for us if we will match our beliefs with obedience. Please strengthen our confidence in your power and trustworthiness, and grant us the courage to step out in faith when you give us opportunities to prove how much we really trust you."

Point to ponder: The life of faith is a life of taking risks that aren’t actually risky.

“The Voice of God at Sunrise”

Read Mark 16:1-8

As a passionate outdoorsman, I find myself glued to the television for most of the summer months, watching countless hours of hunting videos. It usually doesn’t matter what type of hunting it is…I can get into any of it!

A couple of weeks ago I was lying on the couch watching the opening ads on one of the videos when an opening line caught my attention. Now for those of you that watch these programs as much as I do, you will know where this came from!

The opening for all “Primos Truth” videos has Will making an introductory statement and right in the middle of it comes: “It’s the voice of God at sunrise!” Wow!!…. was the sudden thought running through my head.

Have you ever sat there and really dwelt on those words? I know that as I sit here and think back over the numerous sunrises I have encountered that this statement holds such truth. There we are sitting in the darkness, awaiting the first glimpse of light, when the woods seem to come alive. There are birds just awakening to provide the choir for the morning’s hunt. The squirrels are starting their day, peeking from their nest or den tree; and during the spring, the mighty gobbler is boasting his thunderous gobble to let everyone know where he is! Do you see the picture?

Is it a merely an accident that the sunrise is such a special time of the day? Is it just a fluke that the wonderful painting of nature comes to life at that certain time of day or is there another reason?

I think that God knew all along that the sunrise would some day hold an extra special meaning! You see, there was a moment in time that occurred at sunrise that forever changed human history. It was a moment like no other before it and none other since, but perhaps, the most important claim to Christianity. The Resurrection!

When you read Mark 16 you will find that on the third day Jesus arose from the dead at sunrise! This meant that Jesus was who He said He was…God…the very God that had come to earth and taken human form, lived a sinless life and then died to pay our sin debt. But, He did not remain in the grave. He rose AT SUNRISE to conquer death! It was at this moment that Jesus had defeated sin and death. This miraculous resurrection is the one event that assures the believer of certain victory.

So you see, how can SUNRISE not be the “Voice of God” that we as outdoorsmen and women get to witness every time we go into the woods to start our day! The next time you find yourself seated in the sanctuary of nature, think back to Mark 16 and give thanks to Him for making the sunrise such a magical time! After all, He did have an AWESOME reason for it!

Face to Face with Old Man Trouble

"I will be with you when you pass through the waters...when you walk through the fire...the flame will not burn you. For I the Lord your God, the Holy One of Isreal, and Your Savior." Isaiah 43:2-3 Holman CSB

All of us encounter occasional setbacks-those inevitable visits from Old Man Trouble from which none of us are exempt. The fact that we encounter adversity is not nearly as important as the way we choose to deal with it.

When tough times arrive, we have to make a choice: we can choose to begin the difficult work of tackling our troubles...or not. When we summon the courage to look Old Man Trouble squarely in the eye, he usually blinks...and then he usually wanders off. God, on the other hand, never leaves us, not even for a moment. God's love never falters, and it never fails-and because God remains steadfast, we can live courageously.

Today's Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are my refuge. As I journey through this day, I know that I may encounter disappointment and losses. When I am troubled, let me turn to You. Keep me steady, Lord, and renew a right spirit inside of me thsi day and forever. AMEN

Courage During Times of Change

Are you anxious about situations that you cannot control? Take your anxieites to God. Are you troubled about changes that threaten to disrupt your life? Take your troubles to Him. Does your corner of the world seem to be trembling beneath your feet? Seek protection from the One who cannot be moved.

The same God who created the universe will protect you if you ask Him...so ask Him...and then serve Him with willing hands and a trusted heart. And rest assured that the world may change moment by moment, but God's love endures...unfathomable and unchanging...forever.

A Man of Prayer

Is prayer an integral part of your daily life, or is it a hit-or-miss habit? Do you "pray without ceasing," or is your prayer life an afterthought? Do you regularly pray in the solitude of the early morning darkness, or do you lower your head only when others are watching? The answer to these questions will determine the direction of your day...and your life.

So here's your challenge: during the next year, make yourself a man of prayer. Begin your prayers early in the morning and continue them throughout the day. And remember this: God does answer your prayers, but He's not likely to answer those prayers until you've prayed them.

Your Body, God's Temple

Are you shaping up or spreading out? Do you eat sensibly and exercise regularly, or do you spend most of your time on the couch with a Twinkie in one hand and a clicker in the other? Are you choosing to treat your body like a temple or a trash heap? How you answer these questions will help determine how long you live and how well you live.

Physical fitness is a choice, a choice that requires discipline. . .it's as simple as that. So, do yourself this favor: treat your body like a one-of-a-kind gift from God. . .because that's precisely what your body is.
