rad_112176
Here is a pic of my 06 buck from our annual Michigan hunt with my family. It's was one of the best we seen all week. The coolest part of it all was i shot this one with my Ruger 44 mag. First buck i have killed with this gun. We went up for a week and hunted the first 3 days bow hunting. We got run out of a couple of our good spots we hunted the past few years. My brother and myself decided to find a new area to hunt. We drove around 1 day and found a good spot that was a little drive from our camp. We didn't see to many deer the last day of bow season, but opening morning about 30 min. into the hunt my brother shot a spike. It was about 1 hour later that i had another buck sneak up on me. I got a shot off at him, but i hit him a little far back. We gave him a few hours and then tracked him the rest of the day. We pulled off 2 different times the first day and then we tried to get back on the tracks the next morning but we ended up loosing it. Felt bad for it cause it was a shot i probably could have passed on. We had a awesome blood trail for a long time, but i guess i hit him between the lungs and the liver. I hunted the same stand the next day, but it didn't have much movement so i decided i better get on the move to find a new spot. I only moved across the clear cutt i was hunting (800 yrds) and hunted this stand 2 times before i had this nice 8 pointer come by following a doe. He never new i was sitting directly above him. Shot him at 5 yrds and went directly through the spine. Needless to say wasn't much tracking on this one. It was the biggest of our deer camp. Michigan has much bigger deer on the southern side, but for the area of national forest up by Houghton Lake we hunt this is a decent buck. I was happy with him. Going to get him mounted since he is the first buck kill with my pistol. Sorry it's not a great pic but had to scan. It was taken with a disposable camera. Randy
Re: 06 Michigan Deer That's a cool looking buck. Sorry to hear about you losing the first one. It happens to all of us. It sounds like you tried your best to find him and, that's all you can do. Congrats!!

rad_112176
Re: 06 Michigan Deer Thanks everyone. Wish you were there too brother. You better put in to take it off next year. Don't think Gamble will be there next year. We rode him a little hard this year. We only seen him every other day. Guess you have to have a certain personallity to put up with me, Dad, Jimmy and Rudy. That or be deaf. LOL. I guess

rad_112176
Re: 06 Michigan Deer Thanks everyone. too pointer, Yeah that isn't to far away from where we hunt. I currently live in IN, but most of my family lives in the Saginaw / Fliint area. We have been hunting the state ground up in that area since i was a small kid. I can remember the day when the hunting pressure was not as bad as it is now. Between the doe slaying they wanted everyone to do for the past years and the continuing poaching problem the deer heard isn't what it use to be. Seems like the deer being taken up in that area on state land are getting smaller and younger each year. I really could care less if i get one when we go, so i try to be as patient as i can and this is what can pay off if you do. If i could retire anywhere in the world i believe your area would be it. Hope you stay warm up there. See ya around.
