Guest tarbaby
In my Wildlife Management class next week we are having a discussion and we need to come with 10 controversial subjects in the wildlife field. I have a few in mind like the reintroducing wolves in certain areas and selling an unlimited number of non-resident deer licenses in KS. But I was wondering what ya'll could think up. A little for help and more so because I like to know others opinions on things and what they thought would fall into this category. Thanks, Jason

c_lou
Re: 10 Controversial Wildlife Subjects Is this just geared towards topics for the state of KS? If not I suggest: Feeding ban because of CWD in whitetails De-Sensitizing animals to humans as urban sprawl hits former habitat. Antler Restrictions Just a few I thought of right away. Good Luck. The wolf discussion should be good.

Minimum broadhead length and width Minimum bullet size. Those are more hunting controversy than wildlife, but in the same field.

Leo
Re: 10 Controversial Wildlife Subjects The root of the survival of all controversial wildlife subjects boils down to this. If someone is not harvesting or seeing animals then one of the controversial subjects posted above is always somehow to blame! Anti's blame hunters for killing them all. Unsuccessful hunters blame other successful hunters for using unethical or illegal tactics to get their game. I hate to say it but every time I kill a big deer. At least one hunter who sees me with it asks, "Where did you poach that? Or, "Where is the game farm you bought that from. Did you let them take the bottle out of it's mouth before you shot it, in it's cage?" Nowadays I make sure as few people see the animal as possible. When was the last time you got a pat on the back from a stranger who was a hunter at the checkstation or processor? When I got back from Africa and got my pictures developed. The developer looked at my pictures and said, "Wow! Is it legal to kill those things in Africa?" Our own ignorance, insecurity and incompetence is what fuels these contriversies and prevents us from doing what we really need to do. IE. improve the habitat and really study the population. As a Wildlife professional your NUMBER ONE job is to TEACH. IMO, ignorance of wildlife is the biggest controversial subject, because it's what people THINK they know that causes all the problems.
