Just sent my 835 back to Mossberg for service

I have the 1st run of the Mosssberg 835 3 1/2" 12ga. Got it back in '91 I think? The bad camo job from the factory(green spray paint dots), round forend, and NON ported. This is my workhorse gun. Turkey, crows, squirrels, ground hogs, skeet you name it.

Last week the safety gave out and started sliding back and forth with no engagement. I asked them to give the whole gun a go over. This is a tough gun, not pretty, but a good working gun.

since 91 that is a pretty good piece did they give you a quote on how much it will cost to have the factory look it over and fix any problems

Not yet...I am waiting on that. I need that gun back...so much game has fallen to it. Maybe they could update with porting and the factory fiber optic sights? I'm gonna ask when they call.

Re: Just sent my 835 back to Mossberg for service

Got the 835 back yesterday. I had it ported $35 and had the current factory fiber sights put on it $20. They did not charge to fix the safety. The whole gun was gone over and sent back. The early 835's were not ported and came with crappy sights. Heck they did not even have the fullcamo process availible like www.tarjac.com back then.

All they had was green spray paint on the gun. I put a camo sticker on the receiver that did not stay.

see pic, my son and I, 2 years ago chasing turkeys.

My son has a .20ga Mossberg 500 youth.

I have since bought another 835 3 weeks ago, Gander Mtn said it was used, but the box was damaged and the papers were lost on it, so they put it out as used I got it for $175. All black, ported from the factory but also with crappy sights. I put a Tru glo red dot on it, but I am wishing it was camo'd...no big deal...I'm sure it will kill birds none the less

My son can now shoot the 12ga comfortably, so it made sense to get another 835 since he is always taking mine tongue.gif

I bought the Mossberg 500 Youth Model for my boys to share and it is a workhorse. I use it to slug hunt for deer and it is much handier than an adult sized shotgun. It's lighter and easier to handle. I took a running doe off of her feet this season at a hundred yards with the rifled slug barrel. I can repeatedly shoot Coke cans at 50 yards with it and that's with open sights right out of the box. I have a Mossberg 500 in every gage. I love every one of them. Mossberg does great work and doesn't charge an arm and a leg either. Good luck!

Here is a pic of the older 835 and the new one. I tried some of that snake skin camo on it. It shrinks with a blow dryer... I only did the bbl and it came out OK...but I don't think I'm gonna do the rest of the gun myself. The vent rib was tented by the shrink, so most likely it will rip on a trip in the woods. If I do camo it, I'm gonna send it out to get dipped. Maybe by www.tarjac.com

That was the ONLY camo offered at the time when I got the older 835..green spray paint.

I put the snake skin camo on my 11-87 this last year before the dove season opened, it took me about 1 hour to get it all on. I took the gun out opening weekend and I sat it next to a tree and I looked over at it and the sun was shining real bad off the snake skin, I took it off before duck season opened the glare off the gun was just too much.
