Re: Get the shakes?

I get em bad post-shot. Last year I was standing on top of some cliffs on our farm watching 4 does browse near the creek below, and I wanted to see how they would react to a hen call. So I putted and clucked a few times, only to hear a Boss Tom explode about 50 yds away in a bunch of hemlocks, and here I am leaning against a tree with a t shirt on (it was hot and my camo was in my vest) and my gun an arms length away. I threw on my shirt on in record time and got situated in a hemlock stump and not 20 sec. later two big ol' gobblers came haulin up a finger paralell to me and about 45 yds away. A load of Federals, did the trick on the bigger of the two. It all happend so fast I didn't have time to get the shakes, until it was all over. Then I lost it I was shaking stumbling, hollering, et..... everything you could think of. And I was by myself (thank God...lol)

It is definatley a rush!

Well it's been 3 years since the last turkey I got, but if I remember right, when that turkey starts coming in...your heart is racing and adrenaline flowing like a 10 point buck under your stand! You sit there praying the bird doesn't see you and that he keeps coming in, sometimes almost afraid to breathe in case the bird catches movement, lol. yeah, it's exciting!

I have never hunted turkey. So this will be my first time this spring. Just wondering...........do you guys get the shakes and the pounding heart just like when you're deer hunting?? I just can't see getting that excited over a bird. confused.gif I sure hope I am wrong. wink.gif

Just a bird? Boy, are you in for a surprise. smile.gif

I totally agree. wink.gif An ole gobbler will make me go crazy. I personally prefer deer hunting, but turkeys usually give me more of a adrenaline rush

Re: Get the shakes?

I don't get the shakes or even nervous when a gobbler is approaching me. I get a huge excited rush of adrenaline like nothing I've ever experienced before but it's not a nervous feeling.

I do however get nervous around deer, especially if I'm bowhunting. It's a totally different feeling.

Everytime. When my heart quites racing and the adrenaline quites rushing when a bird works in,then it will be time to quit turkey hunting.I don't ever see that time coming!

Nawww....it's a lot more intense with turkey hunting than deer hunting! grin.gifgrin.gif

Matter of fact the pounding heart starts when they start gobbling. From there it gets more intense (as he gets closer) or less intese if he moves away or quits gobbling. If they come in drumming my hair stands on end.

I hope you'll have several close encounters to find out first hand.
