toddyboman
Re: New coyot hunter as for cal. .223 or .22-250 probably the most common for your coyotes. Not sure about the piggies.
Squirrelhunter91
Re: New coyot hunter I agree with toddyboman.. .223 or .22-250 are sweet little calibers that will be adequate for coyotes and other varmints. I guess if you lay a head shot on a pig both would kill, but I doubt with a body shot it would do anything. Unless you shoot a heavy bullet, something around 95-100 grains. captkb44
Re: New coyot hunter Layne, Do some checking around in the Vegas area, as there are alot of predator hunters out there. Calibers from .204 to .243 work great. If your going to do very much pig hunting, I suggest the .243 as you can shoot a heavier bullet and it does work great on pigs. I have taken ALOT of hogs with my .243. For a rifle, that just depends on what brand you like. Kinda like Ford vs Chevy.....................both work but some like one over the other. Remington, CZ, Savage, and Browning all make good quality rifles. I like Burris scopes. They are good quality scopes that don't break the pocketbook. Commercial made hand calls you can pick up just about at any hunting store and there are some good ones out there that don't cost much, or you can invest in some of the newer electronic calls that cost you $500.00 or more.....................just depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. You can also find custom made hand calls that work real well. There are alot of talented call makers out there now. Other gear suggestions would be a good pair of shooting sticks - homemade or store bought. Good camo that fits the area your hunting...............from head to toe (face masks and gloves are a must). There are also some real good predator hunting videos out on the market now that you can learn alot from. This will get you started. There are alot of good predator hunters on this board and I am sure they can add to what I have posted. Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes.
