Re: mt second story tittle (The Coon Hunt)

I'm with them. If you want to write, maybe learn a few things about punctuation, grammar, spelling, embellishment and content. That was actually painful to read due to the above mentioned problems.

No offense, but I took the liberty to rewrite the story using more proper English and it's still hard to follow because if huge gaps in content. Your story could be a good first draft of a story, but still needs a lot of work. Stick with it, get a good dictionary and thesaurus to avoid repeated use of words (like 'well'), and before long people will be reading your stories and replying with compliments and not criticism. Anyway, here's my version of your story.

It was Friday morning and I was bored, so I decided that I would go coon hunting. That day, unfortunately, I had plans so I couldn't go. So, the next day I called my friend and said "let’s go hunting". He was busy so I had to wait until the next day. The following day, I didn't have anything to do so I called a friend and said lets go coon hunting. He agreed and we met at the church later that day.

We started out for our hunting area. We were about half way there when the old blue tick we have with us started to bark like no other so we a let him loose and he is instantly on the trail of an old coon. We got all excited and started to follow the barking when all of a sudden, my partner hit my arm and said “look!”

There was a bear and its cub playing on the ground. They could hear the hound so they sat still, seemingly unaffected. They continued to sit and we waited. When they were gone my partner and I got up and took off for that old blue tick. He had a coon we were happier than taters in a tater salad.

We got him loaded into the truck and we move on down the road to our usual spot and as we arrived at the turn off, there was a pickup pulling out where we were heading. Some other hunters had beaten us to our spot. We decided to try anyway and let the old hound loose.

Suddenly, he started raising a ruckus like he had a coon, but just as suddenly, he went silent. We headed after and found him investigating something large and black. It was a shot bear! We called the game warden to report the apparent poaching.

A few minutes later, the warden arrived and filed a report. After he finished, we loaded back into the truck and were off. We went about a mile or so and decided to try again.

We set the hound free and he was off like lightning. The chase was on again. He started babbling and barking and we just knew he had something treed- we just didn’t know what. When we located him, we saw he had 2 small coons up a tree. After that, we decided to call it a night, but before we could get back to the truck, he took off again, in a sprint and barking like a madman. He had 3 larger coons on a limb this time. All-in-all, we had 6 coons that night, and they were some gooduns, too.

About a week later, the warden called and told me they had caught their poacher.

Later, my friend and I again went hunting. We let the dogs go and he stayed quiet, so we didn’t give them any thought. But, suddenly, the chase was on as we heard the hound loudly barking. Clearly, he was close. The barking stopped abruptly and we heard a loud scream. We figured he had killed that coon and headed off to find him. Sure enough, he came strutting around the bend, happy as all get out with that old coon in his mouth.

Re: mt second story tittle (The Coon Hunt)

[ QUOTE ]

well see its supposed to be like a hillbilly saying the story....... thanks for adding in the punctuation.:)

[/ QUOTE ]

I understand, but even in the hillbilly's point of view, the story still needs to flow. Add in some quotes from the hillbilly for comic effect or something, but even Mark Twain wrote in correct English and added the country slang when needed as character quotes. If the reader has to struggle to read the story, they'll usually decide against it.

Just trying to help. wink.gif
