Hoyt03
There is a 500 acre piece all old pines I have permission to hunt on. Loaded with turkeys but I have never hunted an area of all pines. Any tips on hunting the birds in the pines would be appreciated. I'm assuming it's not alot different then hunting them anywhere else.

Guest NWTF
Re: Tips on hunting turkeys in pines If it is a thick pine stand try to find a old logging road or path of least resistence that the turkeys would take and setup. maytom
Re: Tips on hunting turkeys in pines Best bet is to get in there a couple of weeks before the season and try to pin point where their roost site is, and where they go after fly down. Like some have already stated, a logging road is by far a favorite travel lane for birds. There must be a strutting zone somewhere the gobblers like to get to early in the morning as well. Only way to know for sure, is to be there and watch, look and listen.

Exturkinator
Re: Tips on hunting turkeys in pines Agree with above - I'd pretty much bet you'll end up setting up in the open areas or gaps (which ones are what the scoutings for...) One thing about scouting in a pine forest - it is generally easier b/c feathers and poop and all are more easily spotted on needles than in leaves... rebelyelp
Re: Tips on hunting turkeys in pines logging roads work great, or other natural openings...... depending on the age and management program, you might can catch a thinning or burning just right..
